Here is Raycom's signoff and farewell

Raycom was a huge mistake on the previous contract, but I'm not too worried about this. It just doesn't make sense that they would make the same mistake again.

Subcontracting is very common in my line of work. In general, you bring in subs for a few standard reasons. Subs may actually be more profitable depending on the labor rates. Another factor may be that the prime contractor cannot staff up in time to execute the contract - enter subs to fill the gap. This is a huge factor in today's job market - everyone is hiring, so it takes a while to hire good people given the high demand. This may be the driving factor in utilizing Raycom. ESPN has to execute the work, and they may not be able to hire fast enough at profitable labor rates to do so. All meaningless speculation on my part and you'll never get this 5 minutes of your life back

ESPN's deals with the ACC and SEC are "very lucrative" for ESPN. Does that mean there is some conspiracy afoot to reward somebody's "buddies" at ESPN? Raycom has been an excellent partner for the ACC for a very long time. Should the fact they are based in North Carolina be a reason for giving them the death penalty?

No, the fact that they are not a viable business without the ACC's handout is why they should be allowed to die. They literally admitted on the record that they would have closed up shop if the ACC hadn't demanded ESPN license games to them at as a handout. It's an obsolete business.

Does Swofford still pay a milkman to come by his house and deliver ice every morning to ACC offices? Somebody check if his nephew has a ice delivery business. Do they keep a VCR repairman under contract?

The ACC's responsibility is to its member institutions, not subsidizing some other business entity for old times sake.

Besides, that doesn't even make any sense. ESPN is paying money out, Raycom is receiving money. ESPN is making money for taking the risk, Raycom is indemnified against risk by the ACC.

No, it's a Beta-max repairman. I think he also maintains their 8-track tapes.
