Final women's basketball standings
Rice finishes 16-0 to become just the 3rd CUSA team to finish the conference season undefeated (Houston and UTEP also did it). Take heart other CUSA teams, both of those teams did not win the conference tournament (but they did get at-large bids both years).

UAB is 12-4 and will finish 2nd
MTSU and WKU finish 11-3 and tie for 3rd but I believe MTSU is 3rd and WKU 4th with the tie-breaker
Marshall and ODU finish 10-4 in a tie for 5th (I think ODU is 5th seed and Marshall the 6 seed).
Charlotte and USM finish 9-7 in a tie for 7th. Charlotte wins the tie-breaker there, and watch out for them, they are the 2nd hottest team in the league now behind Rice.
UNT is 7-9 and in 9th
Louisiana Tech was 6-10 and finished 10th
UTEP is 11th with a 5-11 record
There is a 3-way tie for 12th with FAU, FIU and UTSA at 2-14, but I think FAU is the 12 seed.

Please correct me if I made any mistakes but I think the conference bracket will be

1 Rice-bye facing 8/9 winner (USM/UNT)
matched up with 4 WKU-bye facing 5/12 winner (ODU/FAU)

2 UAB-bye facing 7/10 winner (Charlotte/Louisiana Tech)
matched up with 3 MTSU-bye facing 6/11 winner (Marshall/UTEP)

UTEP knocks off UNT in El Paso so that puts an end to the 2019 conference season for the women. I updated the records in the first post.

Final women's basketball standings
Nothing is certain but I will say that based on our regular season meetings ODU and MTSU probably scare us the most.

I've got FIU as the 12th seed, based on their 5-23 overall record vs. D-1 competition, as opposed to FAU's 5-24 record.

I'm using some old men's tiebreaker rules, though.

Would be nice if we knew the freaking tiebreakers before the season started, but they are still not listed on C-USA website just days prior to the Frisco tourney (even though there's a link, the link goes nowhere). Kind of pathetic, just like our conference "TV" package. Conference is not run well, at all.

RE: Final women's basketball standings
MTSU, WKU, UTSA, USM and FIU finished exactly where they were voted in the preseason.

The biggest surprises were Marshall (picked 13th, finished 6th), ODU (picked 11th, finished 5th), LT (picked 6th, finished 10th) and FAU (picked 9th, finished 13th).

I was using FAU's game notes for reference. They claimed the tie-breaker used to give them the 12th seed was RPI. That seems rather silly when FAU was like 304th in RPI and FIU about 317? But to FAU's credit, they did have slightly better NC wins, and a bigger margin of victory over FIU, so I think they're the right choice of a 12 seed. Plus they gave ODU a pretty good game last night.

RE: Final women's basketball standings
At the end of the day, no one will beat Rice, unless Mulkey gets into bad foul trouble. Even then, it'll be tough.

Our women are a shell of what we once had. Got whipped by a mediocre Western team last evening. I've seen past WKU women's teams that would beat this years' WKU team by 30.

Hopefully that changes next season with five new starters.

You make it sound like Mulkey is a one-woman team. You do realize Erica Ogwumike is almost surely going to win conference Player of the Year, averaging a double double, right? And Iademarco, Wiggins, Smith, Grigsby and Rainey are not exactly chopped liver.

I said....... "even then, it'll be tough".

But with Mulkey it's pritnear impossible.

UAB shooting has been off this year so I think how they do will come down to how they shoot. They absolutely went off against LaTech in the final regular season game shooting something like 80% after 3 quarters scoring 84 points before mostly bench players played the 4th. It was absolutely insane how they couldn't hardly miss in that game. Even the Tech announcers were stunned. Hopefully that is a good sign going into the tournament.

I was at the MTSU game. They played without a doubt they're most focused game of the year. They were totally focused from beginning to end. If they play that well in the tournament they can beat anyone but perhaps Rice. Just too big.
