We desperately need that bigger body!
CG, watched the video too. Loved hearing the players talk. Kai continues to mature and could really be a leader on this team. Coach, Meh. More of the same coach speak, and same tired schemes. Hope there are some changes, but i'm prepping like there won't be.
I'm just hoping he now has the players he needs to make the system he wants to run successfully. Add in some in game adjustments.
Playing small, in theory we should be able to defend the three more. But honestly, i don't think it was a personnel issue the last two yearyears ands.
There was an issue with at least one player. Created a cancer on the team. That may not have affected the lack of in game adjustments. But there was a trust issue with certain players. From what I saw yesterday, these guys are more focused and together. Marty L., as a big man, was diving after balls and guys seemed to be feeding off of that. It all still has to carry over the real games. Just hoping it does.

They haven't said much about the significance of the injury but now that Okauru is eligible you have to wonder if a medical redshirt is being considered. Isaiah Thomas is the most notable NBA player that has suffered from a similar injury that I know of. He basically missed the whole year following his surgeries. I know Ty G is already old for his grade but I think it should be considered.
And unfortunately Thomas was never the same either.
If Ty takes a medical redshirt here he might end up a Grad Transfer afterwards.
While it's something to consider, you gotta do what's best for the player. Ty G was a warrior for us last season, played all of conference when he shouldn't have been.

Hoops, you know hoops man. It was a personnel issue. The year before, they were depleted and last year they were very young. Judge them this year if you want a truer picture. If big man doesn't get hurt, this team is better period, end of story. They have more speed, skill, shooting and more experience. I agree that one more big would be huge.
Think about this...at the end of CAA games, we folded often times because we simply couldn't score and couldn't get enough stops. This team WILL score the ball way more. That's half of the equation. And, it really matters on the road. You need guys that have been there and guys that can get their shot at the end of a clock. That wasn't there and was a problem. Watching the last few minutes of games was painful as we methodically tried to get it down low to Cacok with the shot clock running down and everybody in the building knowing what was coming. Too easy to defend. Give me somebody getting downhill or a drive-kick option to go with some low post action any day. Maybe that's just me.

Bill, there were plenty of guys that can play D, it wasn't a personnel issue. If there was a cancer on the team as 33 mentioned it is another story. What I saw was a historically bad D and a coaching staff that was unwilling to adjust. in regards to forcing it into Vonte, that's 1000000000% on the coaching staff. Everyone in the building also knew that Vonte wasn't that type of player, and worked better in pick, roll type situations etc. or crashing weakside on a drive. Yet, the staff refused to put him in situations to work to his strength. We'll see this year no more excuses!

Side note: Didn't realize part of Bowen's decision to transfer closer to home was due to his dad being sick. The NCAA has historically given those players waivers in the past, but you never really know.

This is why they believe he will get the waiver. His request is actually stronger than Okauru's, who has already received his grant for a waiver.

That doesn't look good. But we have a history of preseason disrespect. Keatts got no love his first year with such a turnover in players. Wainwright and Brownell each finished seasons well above where we were picked. In defense of the conference, it's also hard to determine the strength of a team with seven new players. Hopefully, as in the past, it will stoke this team even more to prove them wrong.

No disrespect in my opinion. We just finished dead last with an NBA caliber post player who crushed the boards and one of the better point guards in the CAA. We lost Cacok so do the math.
I think we can do much better but I’m not holding my breath.

Looking at verbal commits, it's eye opening to look at the shaded out seniors that would have been at UNCW this year.
Ty Taylor, Jaque Brown, Jaylen Fornes, Mark Matthews, CJ Bryce, Jental Cylla. And the only senior on the team is grad transfer Carter Skaggs.

RE: Expectations for next year....
Last year's team lacked a go to perimeter scorer and you need that to win. You can compete for 37 minutes, but lose at the end of games when it's winning time. Defense wasn't there for sure, but you have to be able to score to win, especially on the road. Hopefully they will get some guys other than Kai that can create plays. You have to be able to drive the ball nowadays and they have at least 2 more guys capable of that.
Maybe they have the personnel now to defend the perimeter better, but they still have to actually do it. I'm excited to see what they can do. They certainly have more experience at most positions with better overall athleticism and length. The post area is my main concern right now going in, but I'm old school. They may even implement some 3/4 court pressure now like they tried to do some at times last year, but didn't feel comfortable with some guys last year. It will be interesting.

Wait. I thought CJ would’ve graduated last year. Weren’t he and Cacokin the same class until he transferred?

Yes, CJ would have graduated. He's a SR this year at State and had to sit out a year.
