Not sure I have any commentary. Interesting timing just before things heat up for the end of the Big 12 GOR.

Perhaps it is simple. Delany will be age 71/72 by his retirement date.

Like Swofford of the ACC, Delany is a UNC grad. He also went to UNC Law School.

Yep and he and Swofford are about the same age so Swoff might not be there much longer either. Ditto for Bowlsby who is 69. Lots of change coming our way with the conferences. The SEC's Sankey could easily be the longest tenured commissioner within 5 years given Scotts' troubles too.

Quote:Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips is the favorite to succeed Delany. One of the nation's highest-paid ADs, Phillips has been with the Wildcats since 2008. He was elected as the inaugural chair of the NCAA Division I Council in 2015 and was the first active AD to sit on the NCAA Board of Directors and Board of Governors.

Would be an interesting choice.

He’ll sign off doing something big, something stupid, or nothing at all

RE: Delaney to Retire June 2020
Some of these former commissioners make good money doing consultant work, assuming they stay in good health.
Mike Tranghese did consultant work with the SEC several years back about strengthening SEC basketball placements for the NCAA tournaments. I think Memphis had him as a consultant as well a few years back.
Chuck Neinas, a former Big 8 Commissioner, served as Big 12 Interim Commissioner during 2011-12.
Those are just a couple of examples.
