Ode to Northeastern Men's Basketball
I looked back at some CAA win/loss records since NU joined the conference back in 2005, and found these interesting facts:
Northeastern has the best cumulative winning percentage of any of the 10 teams currently in the league since our first season back in 2005-2006. (149-101 at .596 win rate)
Not only do we have the best record, but we have been consistent. Of the 10 teams currently in the league, we have both the highest winning % in games before the exodus of 2013 (85-59 at .590) and also the highest winning % after the exodus (64-42 at .604, tied with W&M).
We've been to the tournament semi-finals 5 of the last 6 seasons (tied with W&M who have actually been there 5 in a row. Speaking of W&M, they've had the greatest turn around since 2013 conference restructure in terms of W/L record and tourney success. One day it'll translate to the NCAA's).
Coach Coen has really been good for the program. There have been plenty of times we fans have been frustrated with how he's handled players and their playing time/roles on the team, but overall he's made us a successful CAA team.
Here's hoping we get another shot at the NCAA's this season.

Heyyyy, where have you been? We thought you fell off the face of the earth or something...
I’ll get back to this when I return from Charleston next ... hopefully with a CAA Championship.

Needed a break. Still been watching the games but I've had a lot going on and wanted to see if stopping posting on different message boards would be good for me. Results were inconclusive lol.
I wanted to get to Charleston this year but it wasnt in the cards so next best thing is to start posting again.

Some of that surprised me but when I think about it we haven't had a lot of rebuilding years. Real good players graduate and there are real good players blossoming right behind them or transferring in. And, yes, Coen should get a lot of the credit for our success.
PS Welcome back!

Since it's 250 CAA games, the winning percentages are multiples of .004, so all of them are exact to three decimal places. Hofstra is 141-109 for .564.

3 losing seasons in 14 years. The worst being 6-12 in 2011 where we had many ups (such as beating eventual final four participant VCU by double digits) and downs. Rebuilding has been quick since the other two losing seasons were followed by regular season co-titles (though losing the tiebreak) We always seem to have something brewing.

Shows the voting for CAA awards this season. It really solidifies how well-rounded NU is this year. We may not have won any major awards, but we had the most players receive votes for the All-CAA team (5). We had the most players receive votes for the All-CAA defensive team (5). Pusica was the only player to get votes for POY other than JWF (Votes from Hofstra that couldn't vote for JWF, but still..). Coen came in 2nd for COY voting. Murphy in 3rd for 6th man award.
Congrats to the team and congrats to Pusica and Roland for their All-CAA accolades. (And great job by Coen for finding them to transfer here in the first place!)

Can't say I agree with the Coach of the Year choice.

I'm not surprised you disagree. Being picked third and finishing first makes a coach likely to win, but I think Coen is considered better than Mihalich in general. If they did a Preseason Coach of the Year before next season knowing that Hofstra won't have Wright-Foreman or great forward Jacquil Taylor, I don't think Mihalich would win. I think it would be Coen or Shaver.

Evan, yeah. I'll admit that I don't know what the criteria for COY is and I agree that finishing higher than expected in a point in your coaches favor but in my mind I thought you should have been picked second not third. We were picked first because all our starters were returning and we had three reliable bench players. We all know long that lasted. My argument would be that Coen did more with what he had. Your coach takes quite a bit of heat on your board. Some might argue that you won in spite of him. Anyway, congrats on a great season. I hope we get to play against you one more time this year!

RE: Ode to Northeastern Men's Basketball
I don't know if any of the awards have written criteria, but I would expect people to compare expectations to the standings, especially assuming the same people voted for both. I thought it was obvious that you and Charleston would be picked first and second in some order, and I thought W&M would be picked third. I admit that you might not have been picked first if everyone knew in advance how many games every player would miss. If you made a First Team of players who missed time, it would have Pusica and maybe Occeus. Occeus, Elon's Dainan Swoope, and Drexel's Kurk Lee missed a majority the games. Pusica, Delaware's Ryan Allen, Charleston's Marquise Pointer, and Drexel's Troy Harper missed less time. Thank you for the congratulations.

We also were without Max Boursiqout this entire season who started every game for us last season.

STL.....the only way our season could have been any worse would have been if Walter Whyte (out for the year at BU) had chosen us over them.

Pusica will be playing in the 3v3 college championship in April. He will be joining Cacock and two other unknown (at least to me) seniors to represent the CAA. Good luck! If JWF and Brantley play, we'll have an excellent team this year.
