MyBB Men's CAA Tournament - Charleston 2019
Charleston should have another year with a healthy home-court advantage. This sponsor is giving away 60 THOUSAND vouchers to local kids in Charleston. Very generous, but wow, that seems unfair to the visitors.

Got my tickets... I was... surprised at how good my seats are. Makes me wonder if we will have lower attendance from Tribe fans this year? That or my points are better than I thought 03-wink. I'd never tried the lower bowl before, but with the option being lower bowl or the corner, I opted for lower bowl.

Yes they gave out 60,000 vouchers for kids that require a paying adult for the children to receive free admission to a session of their choice. Suspect that will help UNCW fan support on Saturday which might help them win which moves UNCW to the quarterfinals playing either CoC or NE. Would be really nice for them to win Saturday and knock off one of those teams Sunday.

Think you are right that the ticket sales are down.

Leadbolt and I have our tickets-stop by we are 110 G12-14.

Will try to stop by... I have the challenge of wrangling a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old, so I never know exactly what ability I will have to do that 03-wink.

We somehow are 110R row FF. So we're 6 rows off the floor.

For folks that remember, I assume those are folding chairs, right? If so, I can't remember if those are tiered or not?

I couldn't make it to Charleston last year but my plans are definite for this year. However, I am not buying any tickets in advance; rather, hoping to get best available seating at the door. I plan on attending only the Tribe games. I don't think any previous W&M games have been sellouts so hopefully that won't be a problem. Anyone have any pertinent info to cause me to change my mind about buying tickets at the door?

Yes they are tiered but not enough for kids to see and are folding chairs. Since you are near center court that will help.

Cannot see a sellout where tickets unless CoC is playing in the finals against us then the 60,000 free tickets for kids with a paying adult could have a huge impact!

I plan on doing the same. Never been an issue in the past.

Hrm, interesting... my 2 1/2 year old won't love not being able to see 03-wink.

The good thing is, I'm certain that moving up won't be a challenge at all if the view is an issue.

Thanks! Yes, I see it the same way -- and we wouldn't face Charleston until the final and hopefully they won't make it that far. If they do (and we do) then that is a problem that I will be glad to face later.

I didn't order ahead of time, but am planning to buy tickets now at least for the first game. My impression is that I'd rather be in a normal section on the end rather than a corner section on the floor, since it seems far away from the court and would likely have bad viewing lines. Does that sound right?

Will be a tough tournament if Audige doesnt recover. He was limping pretty badly initially. Seemed a bit better later on the bench, but he has been our spark.

RE: Men's CAA Tournament - Charleston 2019
Tough turnaround for the JMU/Towson winner next weekend to have to play at Noon on Sunday after finishing up around 6pm on Saturday and losing the extra hour to DST that night. Hofstra with a big advantage, so, won't expect the 3 OT leg drain we would hope for on Hofstra.

Anderson played today for Delaware.

Interesting quote from the Delaware board that I think was just a little misapplied relative to opening tournament games (Tony is 9-6 in opening games with 5 straight wins):
"The good news is, that the W&M coach, Tony Shaver, has a long history of failure in the tournament. No reason to think that the streak will not continue."

Delaware has lost 4 games in a row, and 7 of their last 9. The Tribe has won 5 games in a row, and 7 of our last 9. Tale of truly opposite, trending teams. Outside of the 2 pt loss we gave away to them this year, Ingelsby has lost all 5 other games against Tony by an average margin of 21.6 points. Tournament payback is still not complete.

We have made the championship game four times in eleven years, compared to once for them. If Marcus hits that pullup, all they'd have left to hang their hat on would be four winning seasons out of 18 in CAA play. But until we get the monkey off our back, we're gonna keep hearing this crap.

Only W&M (including Paul), Northeastern and JMU are out of classes this week for spring break, so, have the luxury to focus solely on basketball prep heading into next weekend. UNCW has their spring break next week. The remainder of the CAA are academic business as usual this week and next week.

RE: Men's CAA Tournament - Charleston 2019
The team is in the best position possible after our poor start to continue their 5 game winning streak and finally DANCE. They are learning how to win with adversity and now have developed the ability to have a shutdown D at the end of the game which has been the key to many of our 5 wins.

The best investment Huge could make right now is allocating resources to Shaver to find an outside consultant to work with the TEAM to address the clear mental (vs physical ) issues that prevents our team that lead the country with 80% FT last year to improve from our current 65% last place in league play. We all have seen the drop of each player from last year to this year in their FT% so it is not ability. That could make the difference in getting over the top.

This will be the first time we have played Delaware in the tourney since the painful loss in the finals five years ago so payback is due!

RE: Men's CAA Tournament - Charleston 2019
Ken Pomeroy's stats go back to 2002. From 2002 to 2018, the highest ranked offense per KenPom has won the tourney 6 out of 17 times, with an average rating of 2.93. (I may shorten this to the last 15 years after this season- the spreadsheet is geting unwieldy.) Rankings this year, assuming opponent adjustments prior to the tourney don't mess things up:

1: Hofstra
2: Northeastern
3: Charleston
4: Drexel
5: UNCW
6: Delaware
7: W&M
8: JMU
9: Towson
10: Elon

The average defensive ranking of the team that won the tourney was 2.64. The best defense has won the tourney 3 times. This year:

1: Northeastern
2: Charleston
3: W&M (!!!)
4: Hofstra
5: Towson
6: Elon
7: JMU
8: Delaware
9: Drexel
10: UNCW

The team with the highest combined rating (offensive plus defensive ranking- 1 point for being first, 2 for second etc.) has won the tourney 13 times, with an average score of 5.57.

Northeastern: 3
Charleston: 5
Hofstra: 5
W&M: 10
Drexel: 13
Delaware: 14
Towson: 14
JMU: 15
UNCW: 15
Elon: 16

The highest rated team overall per KenPom has won the tourney 10 times, with an average rating of 1.71.

1: Hofstra
2: Northeastern
3: Charleston
4: W&M
5: Drexel
6: UNCW
7: Delaware
8: JMU
9: Towson
10: Elon

As I've written before, it's been a long time since a Cinderella has won the CAA Tourney. I wouldn't expect anything different this year. Hofstra's the best team and the #1 seed. Northeastern's been better defensively, and no team ranked below 5th defensively in Kenpom has won the tourney. (2014 Delaware and 2017 UNCW were both 5th. Don't ask who they beat along the way.) Charleston's right there and the tinfoil hatters are convinced they'll get to the finals, but they were swept by Hofstra this year. This year it's Bizarro World as W&M's offense is dragging down its defense. I'd feel better about their chances if someone could take out NU for them.
