I am happy to write that Rutgers Basketball is no longer a dumpster fire
Admittedly, I have been a fan of the recent additions to the league. A lot of people say it was a money grab... True, True. But I have always maintained that given time the eastern schools have tons of potential. I have even called for the league to pull in UCONN to really pull in the NYC market and New England.

Maryland is a known commodity and have been competitive from day 1. They have the National Title, the coaching staff, awesome recruiting territory, and tradition. And as far as I can tell they have been more consistently in the top 4-5 in the B1G standings than every school but Sparty.

Rutgers on the other hand has been a God Aweful program since waaaaaaay before the B1G invite. Not to mention the Mike Rice launching basketballs at the players, Eddie Jordan's tenure, and the Julie Herman's debacle. Yeah, while the SEC is loving them some A&M we got Rutgers who can't play basketball in the best basketball media market in the country.

I now have to admit that Rutgers is definitely on the come up. Coach Pikiell is a hell of a coach and I hope Rutgers can hold onto him. He is finding diamonds in the rough and coaching those kids up. They are a scrappy bunch of tough kids playing their hearts out. I honestly think they should make the tournament in the next year or two. Coach Pikiell has in short order eclipsed Penn State in the pecking order of the Eastern 3 IMO. Rutgers still has a way to go to catch Maryland and the quality of recruit will have to increase before they can legitimately contend annually for top honors in the conference. But as of right now Coach is doing a damned good job building up that program and NOBODY wants to play at the RAC!!!

Its been a long comeback since our early to mid 2000s squads that were really competitive in a stacked Big East and lost to Michigan in the NIT final in 2004. Looking forward to what's ahead next year.

Now if only our football team could finally do the same.

I'd love nothing more than for UConn to be added to the Big Ten. But I just can't get past the football program. Did they really think RE 2.0 would resurrect UConn football? They shot themselves in the foot by overlooking Greg Schiano, Al Golden and Don Brown. Hell, I would've even considered Steve Addazio before bring back RE.

UConn brings no football history, no football brand, no football recruiting area, and no football fans. They provide a win and that's it. About 80% of the television package is for football. I think the conference shouldn't settle for UConn and it would devalue the conference. At least Rutgers provided a great recruiting area and is in the home market for tons of alumni of all the schools in the conference.

Having said all that, I am sad that Penn State is the bottom feeder of basketball and may be getting passed over by Rutgers. Of course we start winning after the season is unofficially over. Penn State won't be playing in the postseason. Despite knocking off Michigan and Maryland lately, it just makes me wonder "what could have been" and reinforces my belief that Chambers should be fired.

Good job Rutgers at finding a pulse in basketball. I expect you to turn it around in football after you make a coaching change. You aren't as bad as the haters want to believe.

It's too bad UConn football has become a total clusterf*ck. Before BE football collapsed, I thought it would become the regional power in New England at the expense of BC and UMass. There's probably enough talent in New England to field one competitive team but not two let alone three.
