The Season In a Nutshell
82hawk:
No kidding. Elon SHOULD be the worst team in the CAA. Here is how they score in the CAA....UNLESS they are playing UNCW.
Towson 60
JMU 68
Drexel 65
Delaware 65
NU 70 (OT)
Hofstra 71
W&M 76
CofC 53
UNCW 89
Delaware 57
Drexel 63
Hofstra 61
NU 60(OT)
W&M 74
UNCW 84
Elon can barely get out of the 60's, and the most they scored against any other CAA team was 76. Yet we give up 84 and 89 to them. That is this team and the McGrath era in a nutshell.

RE: The Season In a Nutshell
One thought that has recently crossed my mind in regards to the coaching staff, is how much influence did Joe Wolf have last season... He was mostly referred to as the bigs coach, but now I'm starting to think he had a much bigger impact than that. He had legitimate head coaching experience and the team last season was obviously better coached. That being said, C.B. could be well served by bringing in somebody with HC experience, preferably with a defensive background to fill the open assistant position.

Joe Wolf had no influence on in game coaching. A players father mentioned to me he was disinterested during games.

Hawking, you make a good case here for outrage. It's all about defending that 3 ball with Elon and the Hawks didn't do it. Teams that rely on their defense were great against Elon and teams that rely on their offense like UNCW and the Tribe allowed more points.
Defense is a learned thing and takes times to build. It has to be a fundamental starting October 1st. I feel that it's a combination of things here. First, UNCW plays a lot of younger players in the backcourt with 2 of them being true freshmen. I have no doubt that Toews and Sims will be excellent defenders in time and both are arguably All Freshmen CAA, especially Kai. Ty Gadsden is just a soph as is Estime. These guys have been manning most of the minutes. Cylla started off slow defensively but is getting better and Cacok has to play tentatively to stay in the game from what I see.
The coaches are responsible for getting their point across. If a team like Elon is getting their shots early, call a TO and get it changed before it's 20-6! I would have called a TO at 3-0 if I wasn't pleased and have done just that many time btw. The deal is that if you don't pay attention to the scouting report, you sit for a while. That's it!
The talent is there for the future, will they make it happen? Coaches, you were able to get some really good players and more talented guys are coming and sitting so it's up to you now. I will add that one more year of seasoning will really get Kai confident in his shot as well as Sims development. They will be a handful to deal with for a long time on the offensive side and both can be terrific defenders in time if it all works out and is stressed!

Simple enough. You play a different defense then. You win with what you have, not what you WISH you had. That's the sign of a good coach.
If youth is the problem at guard, we have two junior guards he put a short leash on and DESTROYED their confidence. The trajectory of Fornes was fantastic. He was highly touted out of HS and looked really good under Keatts. Ty Taylor is a senior by age, but he sits the bench now as well. McGrath chose to play HIS guys and this is what he has gotten IF you believe that is the actual problem.

Well that's pretty disappointing to hear.

interesting to hear. I think any coach would have to pay attention to the games to be successful, and by all means he was a solid bigs coach.

Not saying he was disinterested, but thats the persona he gave off. When I asked the father after Joe Wolfe left, he said he was not shocked at all.
