RE: OTOD
OTOD in 2019 was a great success, the money raised will be enough to pay for former coach Shaver's salary. Now they just need another OTOD to raise money to actually fund the program.

It was a huge success...now we just need money to fund the program? Yeah, that minor need will get you every time.

RE: OTOD
Athletics had a "record 2,661 donors and raised more than $323,383"

More donors, less money.

Cannot disregard the new tax law. More people donating shows that people are engaged...but since you cant deduct it, they give less.

Also, the new seat fee is surely eating into donations. Remember the required donation to get season tickets? Those dollars no longer count. Many donations were fairly high, simply to qualify for specific seats. Football seats dont all have these fees (thankfully for those of us who do one and not the other season). This cannot be overlooked in the totals given to MBB.

Someone had mentioned that the athletes' "Ten for the Tribe" gifts were counted as OTOD donations this year for the first time. If true, that would account for the increase in individual donations (mostly of small dollar amounts).

I do think that the tax law probably had some impact, as donors with financial advisers (or who keep up with such things in the financial press) have been advised to bundle gifts every other year, etc., to maximize their tax benefit. I doubt if that effect is quantifiable. We'll see if the amount suddenly increases next year as people who didn't donate this year "bundle" -- personally, I think we'll see a little of that, but not a lot.

I think a message was sent. The Tribe has Spoken.

2018- $ 451k
2019- $ 323k

Previous totals. https://tribeathletics.com/news/2018/4/2...e-day.aspx

Well, swimming and field hockey DID win championships this year! 04-cheers

Re the OTOD bar graphs on the link: methinks that we will see the "Donors" one again -- the number did go up (although most likely because the student-athlete $10 donations were counted). However, we will not see the "Dollars" one again for a number of years (not until enough years have gone by for the 2019 number to fall off the chart). The 2019 number is not only less than 2018 but it is also less than 2017!!

Huge was hired as a fundraiser. Seems to be doing a very poor job of that, so far.

Well, in fairness to Ms. H. (of whom I am NOT a fan at this point), OTOD is after all "One Day" -- presumably her fundraising efforts may have better days than that one.

If OTOD is down $128K, but the New York event rakes in more than that, then I suppose she's doing her job in that sense.

Strictly from a financial standpoint, it only takes one "Max Megabucks" to cancel out a whole tribe of unhappy "Blow Gym rats."

RE: OTOD
I would be curious to know if the funding difference was from small donors or a big one. The fact that there were more donors overall would make me think that last year there was one donor who dropped 50k or something, and that idd'nt happen this year.

Spin this any way y'all want. When swimming (I don't think it's even a scholarship sport at W&M) gets more money than MBB, that's an indictment on what transpired 3 days after the CAAT and it's embarrassing.

Let's hope Dane brings success and time heals this wound.
