Murray State added to the 2021 schedule, which also includes Miami (OH) and Indiana. We still have that TBD game against a very big opponent still vacant.

RE: FB: Murray State Added to 2021 Schedule
My recollection is that Murray State is FCS. Did the NCAA lift the restriction where only one FCS win could be counted toward bowl eligibility every three years or so?

I've been surprised UC hasn't hosted Murray State in basketball during Mick's tenure. He always speaks highly of the school and their basketball program so it would seem a natural for a November or December home game.

1 win over an FCS team counts toward bowl eligibility. The change was made several years ago I believe.

I think that Murray State is the only FCS school we have so far for 2021.
Miami at home and @ Indiana.

It would be nice to add another P5 game, especially at home. (wish and hope)

I guess Morehead State was not available.

I bet they will bring thousands of fans!

All rumors are pointing towards a match up with a blue blood. Rumors seem to think it will be Notre Dame, but we will not get a return game out of the deal.

I'm guessing there was somewhat limited availability for teams available on that date. Especially ones in the region. No one will care if it's UND as rumored.

If it were a ND status program, except TTFC, I would not care about a return game. Just win! And win big at their place!

If you are going to play an FCS, best to get a regional team that will bring some fans into the arena who will pay for tickets, drink/eat concessions, etc. Seriously, Murray State will bring more fans to Nippert than any of our conference mates (not that is saying much).

Exactly. I don't love playing FCS, but if we do, make it the likes of Murray, Youngstown, Indiana State, etc.

This.

If you're going to play an FCS, one with some sort of name recognition is preferable to one without.

Murray State is (a) regional, (b) has at least a tie-in with UC through Mick Cronin, and © is a name at least someone actually will recognize.

I don't like the FCS game (I'd prefer playing a MACie), but Murray State is about as good a FCS name as you're going to get. I'd like to see Villanova on a future schedule while we're at it.

Eastern KY is also a great example.

RE: FB: Murray State Added to 2021 Schedule
The danger in scheduling potentially "high" FCS programs (like Youngstown State or Villanova) is what happens if you catch them on a "hot year" and they beat you? Temple lost to Villanova, multiple programs have lost to schools from North and South Dakota... You don't get any popular credit when you win, but boy do you get roasted when you lose...

That being said, that's true with a MAC/CUSA type team as well.

Very true. UC dodged a bullet one year against West Carolina I believe, during D'antonio's tenure. It is a risk for sure but one that has to be taken to fill in a home schedule and get some game action for the team before P5 or AAC foes hit town.
