Being a UNCW alum and fan has taught me at least one thing. Never write them off. Even in bad overall seasons there are times like these you don’t want to miss.

You couldn't have scripted it better for Cacok last night. He hit a three pointer, sealed the game with a dunk and got his 20th double double for the season.
And, to top things off, I have never seen McGrath so excited and fired up when the game ended.

Cacok leads the nation in double/doubles by 3. There are five players behind him by 3 and five behind by 4. If he can finish out the regular season and keep that lead, it would take a player on team that goes on a run in their tournament and possibly the NCAA tournament to beat him

It was an amazing atmosphere in Trask, and couldn't have scripted a better senior night for DC15.
Jaylen Sims is the unsung hero of this game. Hit a big 3, got a couple of steals, got a key block on JWF down the stretch, and most importantly showed the ability to drive to the basket and get fouled (then convert his FTs). He's gone from a timid freshman to a key contributor for this team over the past month. While I think he's best suited coming off the bench for the rest of this season, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if he's starting at the 3 for us next season.

Exactly. The size and the ability to space the floor while being a threat to attack is sorely needed.

Agree on all. He’s def grown a lot this year as a player. Bill pointed to his talent early on this season. He’s a McGrath recruit and coach has been giving him consistent minutes pointing to a big time role for him in coming years. His confidence is definitely projecting in the right direction. Like the BnB guys said in their podcast, Saturday’s win over Hofstra was what we all envisioned this team being capable of on paper before the season started.
Hoping this helps them turn that corner, if not for this year than going into next year. Losing Cacok will certainly hurt, and not having a “clean up” guy like O’Connell will as well. We’ll be young again in the post position with Dodd. As he grows as a freshman, we’re gonna need guys like Gadsden, Sims, and Toews to step up as they have all year as freshmen... and all indications are they can definitely do it. Think about that. Three of our biggest contributors on this team are freshmen that play very good ball. I say keep slowing the games down, and let our potent offense compete without giving the opponent as many opportunities in 40 min.

He's also very versatile on defense. Can guard 1-4, and is becoming more confident on that side of the ball as well. It's good to see him grow as a player, instills a little more faith in this coaching staff for me.

My mistake. Gadsden is a sophomore.

They'll go to the transfer market to find another O'Connell type player. It could be a Grad Transfer, maybe a JUCO, but they absolutely need a veteran big. I'm a big fan of Dodd but I don't know much about Linsen. Linsen is slated to start at the 5 as of now so I'd imagine they will get someone to compete for that job.

I’d like to see all of our 3 and 4 players be able to guard 1-4. I think it was 82 that mentioned on defense we’ve been switching a lot more on screens instead of trying to work around them. Leading to more successful defensive stands. That versatility would be especially helpful there.

If it's the only thing I'm not worried about with this staff, it's the recruiting. They've done a good job at finding talent and addressing team needs so far. I'm confident they'll do it again this spring.

Agree. I think the transfer market is a must next year to help out our incoming freshmen bigs. So far, all of the players brought in by this staff via recruiting HS or transfer talent have been contributors. If we can keep that trend going in 1-2 years, I think we’ll be back to sustainable success.
