03-banghead Oh man! NASCAR hit Byron with a hard penalty today. They penalized him 25 points for his run in with Denny Hamlin during the race on Sunday. Hamlin put Byron into the wall and Byron retalliated by spinning Hamlin out under caution.

He has two races to make up the difference- Talladega and the Roval at Charlotte.

Next two races are Miami-Homestead and Martinsville (an hour away from LU). Byron has won at both of those tracks. As long as he stays clean, he’s got a good shot at advancing.

MIAMI
Somehow William Byron made lemonade out of lemons today at Miami Homestead Speedway. He had a strong first two stages, starting the race first, and finishing each stage 2nd and 3rd, gaining anlot of points. In the last stage his car tightened up and he faded through the field as low as 20th. He fought his way back up to 12th at the checkered flag.

He managed to work himself into the championship four with one elimination race to go next week at Martinsville. He won the spring race there, so it should be a great opportunity for him to solidfy himself in the top four for the championship race in Phoenix in two weeks.

Championship Standings
1. Joey Logano. . . . . . WIN
2. Ross Chastain . . . . . +19
3. Chase Elliott. . . . . . +11

I don't have much to say on the subject but I appreciate the updates armymike. It's good to see anyone representing Liberty doing well.

RE: William Byron-NASCAR-Liberty U.
MARTINSVILLE
Byron was never really competitive today unfortunately. He started 25th and ever so slowly made his way to the Top 10. He was very mediocre all day. As a result, he was eliminated from the NASCAR Championship Final Four.

On a side note….. the greatest driver move in the history of NASCAR was accomplished by Ross Chastain, driver of the #1 car. He was racing outside of the Top 4 Championship contenders going into the final turn of the race, needing to pass several cars. Martinsville is a short track and so drivers must slow down and break hard to make the turns. Chastain moved his car out to the wall and fully accelerated using the wall to turn and slingshot his car last competitiors. It moved him where he needed to be and put him in the Championship. It looked like a video game move or a scene from the movie Cars. I will try and post the video.

The top four drivers will compete next week in the final race of the season in Phoenix for the Championship.

Championship Standings
1. Joey Logano
2. Christopher Bell
3. Ross Chastain
4. Chase Elliott

William Byron finished the final race at Phoenix in 6th place. He finished the 2022 NASCAR season as the 6th best driver. It’s his best finish in his career. He won two races this season.

Looking forward to the 2023 season to kick off in 2023.

Wonder how long LU will maintain it’s sponsorship of the 24 car?

He looked awful today but thanks to a good season and all the points he accumulated he squeaked in ahead of the Hamlin

Not good for momentum but he won at phoenix earlier this year so that potentially bodes well.
