It's a shame who came out on top throughout it all but fun while it lasted.

UC will always be on top of Louisville academically and in key institutional measures.

I still believe there will be movement among the P5 so that side of the equation I'll call "to be determined".

I'm curious what gives you this hope? During the B12's dog and pony show a couple years ago, I was also hopeful. But there just doesn't seem to be a need/want for any major conference to expand.

Louisville is/was definitely our best and most natural rival. Really a shame that realignment destroyed it.

Fair question.

The history of conference alignment is one of perpetual change interrupted by brief periods of stasis, which we're seeing right now. While it appears at the moment nothing will ever change again, that's not been the case over time. All it takes is for a P5 school or two shifting conferences and/or negotiation of a new media deal and schools could be on the move.

I'm not predicting massive change in the near term. But I also believe there is a small group of G5 schools including UC with the institutional resources, facilities and competitiveness to move seamlessly into a P5 when some shifting resumes. And what schools would be on the move? Anyone's guess but Oklahoma seems like a possibility. Would the SEC like to plant its flag in North Carolina with NC State? Virginia with VT? UC is well positioned and may only need one or two schools in play to open that door. One man's opinion, only.

I would counter that, being in the Big East actually contributed to the demise.

Basketball played twice a year. How many times did that happen in the BE?

Football was a season ending TG Friday matchup. In the BE, it was a random Thursday or Friday night filler.

Is University-6 still accredited?

Side note: I see their hoops team is #16 or there abouts. Sooooo...guess you can have hookers, crack, money and etc. and get caught red handed to the point your coach and AD are FIRED for it and in the end, it really just DOES NOT MATTER.

And I imagine this will be Mack's worst roster for a while.

Agreed.

It drove me bonkers how the Big East scheduling people consistently ignored the 2nd or 3rd best rivalry games in the conference (after Pitt-WVU and Syracuse-Georgetown).

It wasn't "just" realignment that killed the UL rivalry.
If both schools wanted to continue the games, it would not have been all that hard. Perhaps a couple of breaks in the schedule, but they could play in both football and basketball regularly. It would have been great for the fans in both cities.

I can see where UL would want to keep UK as their prime rival, and that might be part of their decision process.

Unfortunately, I think Louisville would be more inclined to keep the rivalry if UC was P5. History suggests we'd win our fair share in football or basketball against the Cards and they don't want to absorb losses to a "G5 program" on any consistent basis.

this

If we were in the B12, for instance, we would still be playing UofL on some basis. Even if it was every two or three years only.
