RE: Kent State @ Akron
Hope you are right Dan. A team with Whittington, Pippen, and Antonio Williams could be pretty good. I think Roberts could be poised to have a big sophomore year, too.

While Kent State will undoubtedly miss Jaylin Walker, I’m excited to see what kind of offense we could run without one guy accounting for 20+ shots and tossing out one assist every other game.

To me Pippen leaving wouldn't make sense. Why leave and sit a year? If you want to leave, stay one more year then leave as a grad transfer.

Then a little latter, it became apparent to me that Akron had the best coach in the conference with Keith Dambrot. When he got smart and left, I thought that clearly, our status at the top would resurface. Now I see that other programs have elevated their coaching and talent level. I am enjoying watching all of the MAC games as play quality is very high. Unfortunately for us though, it looks as if akron has scored a winner with Groce. He is doing a lot with a little. I am agreeing with danny73 and will add that trouble will be had at Oxford and BUGS. We are at a cross roads that will project even beyond this year. We are still pretty good when we are clicking and can beat anyone.
I have been contemplating going to the BG game - I went two years ago and with their record they had little fan base and no home court advantage - still winning up there has never been easy for us going back to Anderson Arena days. If BG continues to win it will be a very noisy and difficult place to play. While it's early to think about next year I am not looking for us to be a better team with Walker and Avery gone, likewise I wonder if we'll see Pippen or or Duling return.

Don't think Duling is going anywhere as I believe academically, KSU is the right fit for him. Could be wrong, but I seem to remember that was the main reason he picked KSU to begin with. Pippen leaving, coming off injury, would also be somewhat surprising to me. Been wrong before, but just doesn't make a lot of sense. I understood the interest in DLR because he was a big body for Illinois. Just don't see a huge market with significant upside for a guy like Pippen coming off an injury. His best opportunity is right here in Kent.
Yes Duling came for KSUs highly regarded Fashion& Design program - just wondering if his heart is really into the game - I was really excited when he signed. Of course I expected Petersen to be a scorer after his showing in his first game against YSU so what do I know. I agree that Pippen shouldn't leave I just hope his injury heals sufficiently. To me all of the transfers are unknowns at this stage.

I agree except an awful lot of players are transferring without having to sit for a year by just appealing to the NCAA. It’s been more football than basketball but it’s been becoming more and more common. The NCAA is obviously worried about losing an eventual lawsuit over this issue.

That's a good point. It will be interesting to see if that happens with basketball too. Probably will.

Don't forget we'll have two former high major rotation players in Simons and Felder stepping in. Whittington does worry me a bit though considering he should be able to bolt as a grad transfer if he wants. I'm not sure about Williamson's situation. This is his 4th year on a college campus but I don't think he finished his year at FGCU so he probably wouldn't be able to graduate yet. Sendy's had a very good track record of finding guys that can contribute right away after the season is over though, so I'm not too worried.
Could you please give me some background info on Simons and Felder?

Simons is the 6'3" guard you see in sweatpants at the end of the bench. He'll be a senior next year. Last year he averaged 9.9ppg at New Mexico. The year before he led the nation in scoring in JUCO.

Rakym Felder is a 5'10" pg that averaged 5.6 ppg at South Carolina as a freshman. He had some problem and got kicked off the team. Then played something like one game in juco before leaving that team. If he can stay on the straight and narrow he'll be a big addition.

I wouldn't be too worried about size. The rotation players we'll be losing for sure are Avery (6'0"), Walker (6'1"), and Frederick (6'9"). All will be big losses but in terms of size our options to replace the minutes at guard will be Felder (5'10"), Simon (6'3"), incoming freshman Hernandez (6'4"), or increased roles for Roberts (6'4"), and Gholston (6'5").

Inside Pippen at 6'9" should be back then two 6'10" freshman Bennett, and Bainbridge are coming in. So I think we'll be alot taller and longer. I am a tad concerned with the post though as freshman posts are often not ready to contribute much and Whittington could be eligible to leave as a grad transfer if he wants.
