A good friend of mine has a son named Blake Schultz, who is a freshman pitcher for the Louisiana baseball team.
Sad to say, he passed away last week, and his funeral was yesterday in Houston. It was a beautiful ceremony, but the thing that blew me away was that Coach Robichaux got the players together and they took a bus to the service. It was a beautiful gesture, and meant the world to his wife, parents, and kids.
Just wanted to share how great I thought that was.
I'm no fan of baseball overall, but I'm definitely a Louisiana baseball fan now.
Drove through Lafayette last month. Stopped for lunch. Everyone I ran into was really nice. Wish I'd had more time to look around. That said, (the nice folks part) I'm not surprised by the gesture.

I have never met a man with higher character and principles than Tony Robichaux. Those of us in these parts aren't surprised by this. Tony has always said his purpose as a coach is to help his players be better husbands and better fathers.
The team is also wearing a #12 sticker on their helmets this year to honor Cajun Volunteer Assistant Softball coach Geri Ann Glasco,(daughter of the Louisiana head coach) who was killed in an auto accident two weeks ago. 12 is the number she wore at Georgia and Oregon.
And, Rev, you'll be happy to know that Blake is one of the freshmen that Tony is really high on. He'll pitch this season....maybe against the Bobcats, who knows?

Condolences on the loss of your friend and thank you for your kind words regarding Coach Robe. Coach Robe is truly a good person which is evidenced by how many of his players have turned into good men. Winning is important, but his focus will always be developing the players as students and young men. His former players speak very highly of him.
As far as I know, he is the longest tenured coach currently at UL. He is widely respected at UL and in the Lafayette community in general.
This was from a good while back, but for those who are interested. There was also a three interview segment done with the local radio station that is along a similar vein.
