67th Beanpot
Today is the first Monday in February, and that’s means it’s the semifinals of the annual Beanpot at TD Garden.

For the first time in 30 years, NU comes into the tournament a series the defending champions.

BC will play Harvard at 5pm, while NU will play BU in the other semifinal at 8pm. Both games are on NESN.

#12 NU has suddenly lost 3 straight games. I don’t have a good feeling about this game ...

RE: 67th Beanpot
Here in Boston there has been a lot of Beanpot coverage and what irks me is all the "first win in thirty years" emphasis.....followed by how many Beanpot wins BU AND BC have. It's like they are all living in the past. It used to be that we were never in the Championship game. We weren't at the same level as the three other teams. Even when we won four pots in the eighties three of them were in Olympic years when the other schools sent their stars to play for medals. I'd to see more emphasis on what's happening now. We're the favorite to win. We're the only team in the top twenty. We've been in six of the last ten Championship games, etc. Instead, if we do win...... next year it will be "NU has only won two pots in thirty one years."

I agree.

I actually had second thoughts about what I wrote on us defending for first time in 30 years.

We’re not going away when it comes to recruiting with BU and BC. All you have to do is look at the talented players we are getting. And we’re getting kids whose dad’s played in the NHL.

We may lose tonight, but we’re on the right track.

Wiz, I wouldn't want you to think I was being critical of your post. After all, the thirty year thing is a fact. What bothers me is the lack of balance. I watched a replay of last year's win and I stopped counting how many times it came up. They also had graphics showing what the best picture was...The Last Emperor...and TV shows that debuted that year...Rosanne and America's Most Wanted. And they said that the game is more important to NU because "the kids from BU know they have a great chance every year." It will be interesting to see if the narrative is different this year. End of rant. I feel better.

Buh bye Ratdogs is so right ... NU with a gutty 2-1 overtime win to advance to the Beanpot finals and a chance to win back-to-back title for the first time since 1984 and 1985.

Freshman sensation Tyler Madden with the game winner on a breakaway.

NU peppered BU goalie Jake Oettinger with 49 shots and dominated play. It would have been deflating loss based on how we carried the play.

Oh and I know you weren’t being critical NUGuy. All good.

Absolutely loved Madden in the presser say “I shine best under the bright lights.” ... Cojones!

RE: 67th Beanpot
Another Beanpot! It seems like for a long time we've had scorers but below average goalies. Someone calculated that if we had goalies with even average stats we would have won an additional x number of games. This is what happens when we have a great goalie and our usual scorers and defense.
