I don't see this GCU forum as being exclusively for GCU fans; only that the topics on this forum pertain primarily to GCU.

Perhaps. I don't post on other forums to other schools. I prefer not to post on the main forum here because, there are posters who are just difficult to communicate with. I thought I could return to post to Lopes fans. I suppose not. Thanks.

As this thread progressed it was headed down this path.

With the current amount of activity in the WAC main board and in individual team boards, posters are going to look at whatever is posted, wherever it is posted.

This is a giant network of message boards. You are going to interact with posters you disagree with or could careless for a poster's opinion. Utilize the ignore function if you really do not like someone's opinion.

Please, feel free to post what you want.

Poor Lopesup. Aggie fans are soooo difficult. Seriously, GCU is really playing good right now. Hats off to you. Gonna be a tall order to beat GCU in Phoenix but I think GCU is so obsessed with beating NMSU that it might get into their head a little bit. Good scheduling by Mr. Hurd. We have to go get punched, poked and hacked on Thursday night at CSUB then go play you guys. We have two much needed home games vs the two cream puffs in the conference so we should be tied for first after this weekend with one of you two. I feel dirty saying this but I think I'm pulling for GCU vs. CSUB this coming weekend. Good luck and I hope you guys kill each other this weekend!

Right next to your buzzer beater banner.

Hardly. However, the buzzer beating shot really had nothing to do who were playing. It was an amazing shot and it was a shot to win the game. Unfortunately the Aggies put themselves in that position. First, AJ Harris dribbles off his leg, then a reach around foul by Milstead is not called so GCU gets the layup. Then your starting point guard (a D2 grad transfer, an example of your awesome recruiting), misses the front end of a one and one. Not very championship like. No Lopesup. No banners for that unlike the never ending interview that will be played about Pitino commenting on your crowd for years or how you almost beat this team or that team or a banner for some stupid ranking on a mid major poll no one cares about. That's not our style. However, we did hang a banner the night you guys were in town at halftime, a 2018 NCAA Tournament Banner.

RE: Crickets...
So, what banners is everyone talking about? I hear it joked about in a derogatory mostly by Aggie fans, but there are literally no banners anywhere in GCU Arena. Just the conference member flags. Antelope Gym does still house banners from lower level champions (e.g. DII, etc). The only other thing I can imagine people are talking about would be general campus decor, like light pole and building hangings, which generally just highlight points off campus and community pride. I don't think that is any different than what I've seen on other college campuses, so can someone please help me understand the whole banner thing?

I think they are referring to some signage on campus when the lopes cracked the mid major top 25.

Making the NCAA tournament is a huge achievement in college basketball. Cracking some mid major top 25 poll is not. The day when/if that ever happens for the Lopes GCU will erect a golden statue of Dan Majerle in front of GCU arena.

And now there is signage about more recently being rated the top "outdoorsy" college and one of the best college campuses in the US. Not sure why or how celebrating points of community recognition/spirit/pride is different than what happens on college campuses everywhere else invthe country.

This very conversation (within the GCU forum) shows that there is a rivalry between NMSU and GCU (at least among those who post here). February 9th cannot arrive soon enough. If GCU wins, I can only imagine the volume of excuses that we will hear. Complaints about the refs, the fact they had to play CSUB on Thursday, the players had a bad night (like they did at CBU), only tournament games matter, etc. On the other hand, if GCU loses, we will moan our loss but mostly just congratulate NMSU on their win. See ya on February 9th!

You have a bad habit of lumping all NMSU fans together. I have never complained about refs (quite the contrary). I didn't complain about our CBU loss (which looks worse and worse with each passing day). I have never claimed that tourney games are the only thing that matters. If you want to call out NMSU fans, specifically call out the ones you have a beef with. Man up. Don't hide behind "NMSU fans" in general.

And for the record, UNM and UTEP are our rivals.

Thanks for setting me straight Posse. I was mostly referring to those NMSU fans who were jumping into the GCU forum to make comments. My apologies if you were not one of those who jumped into this forum. Enjoy your rivalry with UNM and UTEP. The Aggies seem to be dominating those rivalries at the moment which is great for the WAC. The Aggies are also dominating the "non-rivalry" that is GCU/NMSU at the moment. The GCU fans posting on this forum (i.e., the GCU forum) are just hoping GCU can find a way to stop the NMSU domination so we are having a discussion here.

I think this is where some confusion may lie for those who believe GCU looked at this as some sort of major accomplishment. The signage that was up for about a week, had two missions: Information and Marketing. GCU has a ton of visitors from outside of the university. We also have 20,000 students and not everyone knows everything about GCU basketball. You would have had to have been a die hard fan to know that GCU cracked the Top 25 in some Mid Major poll. All of that was designed to inform the public and instill pride in their university, whether they cared about basketball or not. Secondly, this is similar to going into a restaurant and seeing a sign that says "Voted Top 5 Restaurants in Las Cruces". Our mind automatically thinks we are in some amazing establishment. We don't know who voted on that, but it says "Top 5", must be amazing. Instantly the food tastes a little better. Same things happens when parents and potential students come onto campus. They see signage that says "Mid Major Top 25", "Best Outdoorsy Campus" and instantly you feel better about where you are and the choice you are about to make. Two things are happening here Social Proof and the Frequency Allusion. People will begin to adopt a belief of a group of people they like and trust. They see it once, then they tend to see it everywhere they go. It's less about being braggadocious and more that the people that run GCU really are amazing marketers and are trying to build a brand.
