BTN "Filler Programs"
So watching BTN I always wonder what the interest is in what I call "Filler Programs". I absolutely love The Journey and my daughter really enjoys Campus Eats. I also enjoy all the studio shows. I would think that these shows and getting them right would be crucial in the overall success of the network?

Have any of you seen what the SEC or PAC networks are doing? I watch some games on those networks but haven't given these programs much of a chance on them yet. Curious too, to what the ACC network may come up with?

Sports are obviously the reason for paying for these networks but how much do these programs contribute to the value and success? Personalities are huge too. Paul Finebaum is huge with the SEC. I really enjoy Howard Griffith. He is one of the most level headed sports guys I have ever watched.

With the PAC Network, maybe they could make these filler programs more appealing to those out west? Hell, MTV was once music and look at it now. Maybe combine sports and culture all together and advertise/sell that?

I've searched for input on this and I'm really not seeing much numbers wise. It's something that has been interesting to me for a while though. I do believe that "The Journey " has actually won awards, so that's valuable.

Finally, BTN does their show Big Ten and beyond. Do the other networks give any airtime to different conferences?

RE: BTN "Filler Programs"
From "ACCN based on SECN and BTN":

Quote:Original plans for weekday programming:
• "SEC Now" – news & information show discussing all the SEC news of the day. 7 p.m. ET on Monday and Tuesday and 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
• "The Paul Finebaum Show" - legendary radio show moved to TV, taking callers to talking all things SEC, weekdays 3-7 p.m.
• "SEC in 60" – re-live two games and the sights and sounds that surrounded them over the weekend in a compact one-hour format
• "Film Room" – every week sit down with a different head football coach in the SEC for an exclusive film session, breaking down the X’s and O’s of game footage
• "SEC Walkthrough" – get prepared for the weekend’s upcoming games with a look back at relevant matchups

Other shows now on SECN include "SEC Storied" and the baseball show "Rally Cap".

Great info, looks like I need to sharpen my search skills!

"Film Room" looks really interesting, I'm going to check that out.

I love the Appalachian State vs Michigan mention there at the bottom! Poor Michigan, man do I love when they lose!!!

BTN does the BTN in 60 like the SEC. It is the best thing since sliced bread. Catching some games you may have missed in an hour and getting on to other things!

LOVE Campus Eats. Nice that they decided to give fans and potential visitors a look into where the hot spots for eating are.

And honestly, anytime Jenny Dell in on TV......

It really is a great show! Gives you a look at the college cities/towns you probably didnt know about.

If ACCN does this, I would definitely tune in. Lots of great cities in the ACC.

RE: BTN "Filler Programs"
I guess it's more profitable for these networks to repeat shows rather than go off the air? It's hard to imagine anyone in June or July watching a collegiate conference sporting network overnight.

Well, there's no reason why you couldn't fill the hours with NFL Draft predictions, NFL Draft analysis, Preseason predictions, Kickoff Meeting coverage, Summer Camp coverage, Previews of every game, etc. And that's not to mention "Classic" game replays, interviews with famous alumni, hour-long infomercials for the schools, and, YES, food shows!

Agree, and that's my thinking on starting this thread. What's the real value of these type of programs? There has to be a lot of focus with these networks on these programs to fill space. Like megadrone mentioned, what about these couple of dead months from sports? Hokie Mark, you have some great ideas I never gave much thought about and yes, food shows always draw interest from even non-sports fans.

I forgot to mention the BIG Road Show in August. Now that is a great program I love watching. Visit every schools practice before season starts. Talk to coaches, players etc...and discuss upcoming schedule, new facilities etc...
