Love Jarron, but he isn't on anyone's 2019 mock draft boards. The NBA is an entirely different beast. Jaxson Hayes is projected to be a lottery pick. JC is twice the player Jaxson is right now, but Hayes has upside and athletic ability. JC is where he is going to be...a possible All-america next year.

maybe if he has a big 2nd half he could shoot up the draft rankings, but I haven't seen his name anywhere or any nba-heads mentioning him.

I could see him going early - I don't think it's a sure thing, but it wouldn't surprise me. I doubt he'd be a first round pick (maybe could sneak in as a late first rounder), but I doubt he will be one next year either. I just can't see anything he can do next year to improve his draft position. Not only that, but he will be a year older next year - which will drop his stock a little.

His biggest knock is lack of athleticism and he can't really do anything to change that.

He's shown he can shoot, can dribble and can pass. I think he's played enough of a point-forward role at this point that teams who want to pick him as a point-forward will have plenty of film to evaluate.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really see any area of his game where he needs to come back next year to prove he can play at the NBA level. I think he's shown what he can do, he just has to hope a team is wiling to overlook his lack of athleticism. I don't see anything in his game where he needs to come back and show improvement. He is what he is and hopefully some NBA team will like what he is.

Being a second round pick this year would earn him quite a bit more money then being a second round pick two years from now (not to mention injury risk).
Point-forward?

Dude is a shooting guard... and he can pass a little bit.

On defense he plays every position besides center (he is generally in the 4 position on D when we sub Moore for Scott).

On offense he is a PG/SG/SF as we don't really differentiate the 3. In crunch time he is the primary ball handler. I see Cumberland as more of a forward then a guard because of his size, but it doesn't really matter.

At the NBA level he probably has the best opportunity if he can play the 1 - call it point guard or point forward or just point. Though it depends on the team.

I'm sure he will put his name in and will go through the evaluation. I think I saw him in the 90s on one draft board and most others he isn't listed. The NBA is still huge on athleticism and upside. That might change, but I just look at those draft boards and look at the big time names and the guys oozing the measurables that the NBA drools over.

I do now think he has a chance to play in the NBA since he is so strong. Considering the NBA draft is now 25-50% foreign players and 30% one and done, I still don't see him getting drafted. I think his best bet will be to hope he can sign a free agent deal. Maybe he decides to give it a shot, but I stil have a feeling he returns for his senior season and hopes he can become an All American that might help his draft stock.

RE: possible graduate transfer for next year
I have a friend who is an Nba scout. He said JC is on team's radar, but he would definitely be better off coming back for another year as he would not be a first rounder. He thinks next year would be very good for him, and he could likely take on a lot of ball handling duties with more work in the off season as he would definitely have to do a lot of that with his size at the next level. It will also be interesting to see where he is shooting wise in another year. He's clearly gotten better each year particularly considering he draws a lot more attention now than he did his first 2 years.

Just curious, but anyone know if there's been any NBA scouts at our home games? Seemed to be more than a few during the course of the season last year at BB&T.

Let's hope Feagin decides to come east.

when you watch Logan's YOUTUBE videos of his senior year of high school and AAU circuit he shot pretty well outside. I think after his freshman season that he will be a very good scorer for us the remaining 3 years.

Logan making some great and also some terrible plays but he is not tentative like the rest of our players at times. We miss a few threes early and then we start to pass up open ones in exchange for difficult and often last second two point shots.

I just don't see JCs game translating to the pros yet, he can still come back and have a hige senior year ala Buddy Hield and get drafted. He may have other plans, but he isnt grtting drafted this year in my opinion.

Grad transfers in basketball don't seem to be as effective as they are in football.

Just remember the frenzy on the AAC board over that Joe Cremo guy. Yeah he plays, but it's not like Villanova's shouting "what would we be without Joe Cremo" from the mountain tops.

IU got a grad transfer from WCC St. Mary's that everybody thought was going to be the next Jordan Hulls. Dude's pretty much a stiff.

If he picks us, great. If not, life goes on.

Yeah, but the PG at USF Rideu (sp) I believe is a grad transfer from Gardner Webb and that kid is a stud, so not all grad transfers are stiffs!

I love the way Rideau plays. Not an elite athlete, but his basketball IQ is off the charts.

The decision to go into the draft is a lot different than it was 5 years ago do the G League and compensation of players. The minimum salary right now is $35,000 but players have the opportunity to earn more through affiliate player bonuses and NBA call ups. There's also bonus money for playoffs and winning performance awards. Here's an article from 2018 that stated 50 G League players earned $225,000 in 2017.

https://gleague.nba.com/news/nba-g-leagu...19-season/

If a player gets a 2-way deal like Gary Clark did at first in Houston (now he is on a regular contract) the player gets $77,500 plus the league minimum guaranteed for 45 games ($385,000).

As good of a year as Cumberland is having, I don't see him being NBA-ready at this point. NBA guards are super-quick. Damian Lillard, Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal, Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker. Just a few names that spring immediately to mind. Cumberland's ball handling has improved, but the guys mentioned above would take no mercy guarding Cumberland. Jarron needs to improve his quickness, jumping ability, shooting and ball-handling. Same things that Jacob Evans needed to work on. Evans became a late first rounder, but his adjustment to the NBA has proved difficult. If Cumberland stays at UC for one more year, he likely winds up in the top 4-5 all-timers at UC in scoring. If he takes UC to an Elite 8 or a Final Four, he becomes a legend in these parts for the next 50 years. More importantly for him, however, he works on his game and potentially winds up in the first round rather than a second rounder or an undrafted free agent. Big difference in $.

The problem is the NBA hates 4 year college players. He gains nothing in their eyes by coming back. If he’s not draftable this year he certainly won’t be next year. So the question becomes does it make more financial sense to go to the G League or overseas.

Clark has managed as a 4 year guy. Draymond did ok. If he can play at that level they'll find a spot for him.

There will always be exceptions to the rule, but I’m just going by the odds.

Jarrons biggest advantage in returning is that Mick turns out to be right, he slims down like 15 lbs, and ends up being an effective enough pg to make the league. He's not super bounces but for how big he is the guy isn't particularly slow off the dribble. He could probably try to model his game after Marcus Smart too.

Feagin would help a ton because he will provide some definite offensive firepower that we will need on the perimeter. Right now Johnson doesn't have any offensive game at all.
I'm looking more for steady ball carrier than offensive spark, but will welcome both. I think the wings will handle most of the scoring, Johnson hasn't settled into the college game yet, but he has the physical assets to succeed at this level. Feagin played at UC Santa Clara. Not exactly the ACC is it? Looking at his size and offensive game, I suspect it will be a lot like Broome never left.

Assuming Cumberland returns you could be right, if not we are going to need a scorer out there. His clips look a lot different to me than Broome. Their builds aren't all that different but Feagin looks quite a bit more physical and also much more smooth than Broome. He's much better in the lane and driving than Broome is. JMO of course.

I'm definitely assuming Cumberland comes back, if not... good luck to coach.
Pretty reasonable chance that coach Is going to need some luck. I’d be completely shocked if he does not at least test the waters. Even Coach said on the post game on Sunday: paraphrased: If Jarron is here next year I’m gonna have him play some point guard. I’m going to have him slim down some and play some PG.
