One fan suggested giving away as many tickets as possible to get people in the building and increase food sales. Another post had to do with students not showing up, but they will show up if the team becomes a winner.

Even though Drexel and Delaware are in the same conference and are rivals, their situation is apples and oranges.

Drexel is in the middle of a major sports and entertainment market surrounded by pro sports, and other colleges. Drexel also doesn't have a football team, and never really put focus on building sports fandom into the college culture. Drexel has no games broadcast on radio, and get very little press and media coverage.

Delaware is 45 minutes away from that same major sports market, but they pretty much have an exclusive market to draw from. They get major coverage in their local newspaper and radio stations. They have a major radio deal. There are no other Division I schools in the vicinity. And other than the Blue Coats, who moved to Wilmington this year from previously sharing the BOB with the Blue Hens, no pro sports nearby to compete with. They're also Delaware's equivalent to Penn State, and the main sports draw in the state. But despite all of that, they'll having problems getting butts in the seats.

Now Delaware does draw significantly better than Drexel (as they should) but they have twice as many seats to fill.

This is a little much about Delaware. I have always wondered why they never invested in higher level DI athletics, it is a major state school, but saying they're anything like PSU is out there. 45 minutes from one of the biggest sports markets in the country isn't far at all, that is definitely going to siphon casual fans away.

But bottom line is that they're going to draw to their level. It's really hard to draw for mid major basketball in this area, especially when there's a football team on campus. I don't see what separates UDel from a Towson or JMU or New Hampshire. They should've invested in bigger time athletics when they had the opportunity. Think about the major publics in the northeast along the 95 corridor, you have them, Maryland, Temple, Rutgers, UConn, UMass, URI. I don't know how their athletics is nowhere close to any of those schools.

RE: How can Drexel Basketball improve ticket sales?
A big thing right now is to keep pushing the student experience. JMU was homecoming. JMU fans have said it was a good showing from our students including their efforts during the game. We need to find a way to make that the norm and make that experience an every game experience, not just a homecoming experience. Turnout has been much improved this season and getting them back each game is difficult, but important if we want the DAC to be feared once again.

Didn't think this deserved its own thread, but can anyone tell me what comments Isabell made about the program recently or link something to it?

Meh. He was on a team here of mismatches in year 2 of a coach. He is also on his third program. The couple games I saw early in the year, I was not impressed with his abilities at the A10 level

RE: How can Drexel Basketball improve ticket sales?
we had a nice time at the women's game yesterday. it was $25 for me, my wife, my 4 year old, and the baby. the deal breaker to drive over was the postgame autograph session with the team. girl scout day was a great idea. they had a great crowd and while there wasn't a dac pack I thought the casual student turnout was excellent.

how much is it to sit behind the basket on the north end for men's games? I couldn't buy tickets there through the online ordering page. it doesn't seem to qualify as a "chair back". making that cheaper...like maybe $10...would be a good idea to bring out people who just want to be in the door.

That's been one of the main questions that may have started this whole conversation. They don't seem to sell tickets in the north bleachers for men's games and those seats are really just used for general admission overflow for various reasons. I think they're really just for people who they let in for free for some reason or another. If they sold a handful of $10 GA tickets for those bleachers, I don't think we'd be having the conversation about Drexel games being too expensive, because a cheaper option would be available. Since you guys seem to like sitting there, I might suggest giving Kristin or Allison a call at 1-866-4DREXEL and asking how you can get GA tickets.

One other way to save a bit of money....If you contact the alumni office, they'll mail you an alumni card, assuming you don't already have one. If you buy your tickets at the box office and show your alumni card, you can get a $8 women's ticket or $15 chair-back ticket for men's games.

Same. Did not even know we had an alumni card.

JB, Are there other benefits to this card beyond discounted tickets?

Here's the information on how to get the alumni card and its benefits.

It was as simple as going to google and typing in "Drexel Alumni Card"

So not a lot of benefits, but still worth knowing. Kind of surprised they dont give those out to people as soon as they graduate instead of making you find out they exist and requesting them. That is not very ambitious

Hofstra has Alumni Cards you need to donate to get. They have a gym where you need to get an alumni card and then pay for the gym.

Drexel has a Peanut Butter for tickets promotion for the entire month of February. Bring 2 unopened jars of PB to the ticket office and get a free ticket to a men's or women's BB game. Limit 2 free tickets per transaction.

Great way to get into the DAC for cheap.

Different but good idea. How is that promotion getting out to the masses? If they are expecting casual fans check into drexeldragons.com just for the hell of it, they are highly mistaken. Part of marketing is just that, not only coming up with creative marketing ideas, but also getting those ideas out to the public and marketing the idea. Are these run on ads all across campus for anyone who walks through or drives through or are they only on boards and tvs that students can see, who get tickets free anyhow? I like that we are buying tv space for this team to try and get local casual fans to tune in and watch this exciting brand of basketball. That is how you lure people to show up as well. Same goes for marketing promotions. They need to get out to the public, via newspaper, radio, billboards, electronic boards etc so you can actually attract people to the games.

RE: How can Drexel Basketball improve ticket sales?
dan10 i agree on both counts.

i had no idea there was any type of peanut butter promotion. they're not doing a good job putting this out.

putting games on tv is a great idea. it's nice to finally be able to say something nice about our efforts to sell the program. with football over and no nascar yet...people are probably looking for things to watch. i've lost interested in games like uva-duke. there's no better marketing than to put a full game on tv and an entertaining one at that.

it's also great for me and other alums living a distance away. i think it will motivate rather than deter people to come back. there was a good debate about sprint car racing here in central pa and whether tv keeps people away from the track. i agreed with the idea that people will get more interested/motivated if they can watch on tv.

TV is a preview of what you can experience. It is a way to get butts into the seats. Will there be people who say, "Why should I go when I can watch at home?" of course there will be. But you need to put your product out there so people can watch and get interested in said product first. Most would rather watch a team on tv and find out if they are interested before shelling out money to go to a game.

Drexel has gotten in on the Bryce Harper fun, by offering a $3.30 ticket special for tonight's game and tomorrow's women's game, in honor of Harper's $330 million contract.

Good creativity. Still no clue how they get information out as I would have not known otherwise.

Yep, first I heard of it was on these boards. Not necessarily great advertising if that's the case.
