I don't think the people suggesting the change acted very offended by it. Seemed like people just being proactive to make something more inclusive. I didn't hear any talk of it being awful or anything. I see far more people with upset rants at the thought of it getting changed than the other way around.

You do your best and
We'll do the rest

and the song would still work. I'm sure there are other ways. I get why it's being discussed. I don't think people see it as a big deal the way it is now, but it wouldn't hurt to make it more inclusive either.

That's because often there's a train of other things following behind whatever "inclusive" changes you make to language. "If it's not a big deal..." you have to ask yourself, "why bother?" Sometimes you have to bop the puritanical busy bodies on the nose, and tell them "No you little *****, you can't have it!" but in this case, I'm kind of ambivalent.

I will say, I find the concept of gender neutrality problematic. Gender isn't sex, many of the proponents say, which is contrary to it's original definition Colloquially sex Male/Female has been gender since the word "gender" came into existence. In their mind it's expression... in that regard it would seem "gender" to them is just masculinity or femininity. Sport and the competitive drive is most definitely a masculine thing. Even when women are the participants.

When I hear gender neutrality these days, I just think of these pudgy amphibian, kids... the kind who wear thick plastic rimmed glasses and stocking cap like some depressed EMO version of Where's Waldo.

And it's unfortunate. Androgyny can be a beautiful thing. Classical Greek/Mycenean sculpture is an example.

I don't believe gender is all that relative/muddy. Male and female are gender. When a person is trans, they're usually trying to match a certain archetype of male or female. In North America though, we just have these unfortunate weirdos... They're ideologically far left and destructive to their own livelihoods. They're all doomed to be lonely old cat ladies.

I guess they could claim preference is more relative though. I'd gladly bang either of those two statues than them and one of them isn't even a hermaphrodite, Dionysus is just a feminine dude.

Thanks for all that nonsense.

What does that have to do with a suggestion of changing the fight song to acknowledge it is the fight song for women and men?

That's like asking "what does the Islam have to do with discrimination against homosexuals?"

Ideology informs progressive activists on campuses in Western countries and most of the ideology comes from post modern thought. These are the people who push for gender neutral reforms, they push for ethnically/racially exclusive student unions, they're the same people who "deplatform" problematic speakers on campus and you'd have to be completely naïve to think these changes in language aren't part of that same movement. They're anarchocommunists and anarchosyndicalist groups who often take part in black bloc/Antifa marches etc. Basically, they're trust fund babies who demand censorship and form outrage mobs to get socially progressive changes over on people who never asked for them. This is how they choose to impact change. By policing language through artificially altruistic means, couching their authoritarian reforms in horse **** terms like "Inclusivity", "marginalization", "intersectionality" and my personal favorite "hate speech".

You can't please everybody, that fact that this is a conversation is somewhat disturbing...the trend at least. Just had an attorney at a large firm mention that a women is suing her employer for 1.5M for the employer asking the sex of her unborn baby...stay away from that question. Be as gender neutral as possible 03-banghead

This thread is hilarious. As for the fight song, no big deal. I’m always going to sing it the way I learned it, but others can do the same.

Cheer Cincinnati, Cincy will win
Fight to the Finish, never give in (rah rah rah)
You do your best boys, we'll do the rest boys,

Onward to Victory!

I'm not entirely sure but I think the song has been around since the 1950s-- maybe earlier.

They're right... Our fight song is way too aggressive for this day and age. It isn't inclusive to the masses or those who don't belong to the upper crust of society. My suggestion is below:

Try, Cincinnati, that will suffice
Everyone wins, so treat people nice
Try really hard, but not too hard
Hail mediocrity!

How about:

"Go local sports team! beat those visitors!"

It's generic, portable, and reasonably inoffensive!

The very concept of a FIGHT SONG is aggressive/offensive. Perhaps a fellowship song or a peace hymn.

The Victory Bell needs to be renamed to perhaps The Sportsman Ringer.

Our teams need to be renamed as BearCats is too mean sounding. How about Callico Cats.

Just stop. It is a song or cheer anyone can sing it. When women do their fair share of dying in wars and in the workplace we can change the lyrics. Next thing you know you want men playing in female sports.

Just quoting so this doesn't get edited.

What a world we live in.

A strange thing to spend any time worried about. It's an old song.

But on the other end, this is apparently all the excuse some need to belittle and insult those with other views or who may even just look different.

This place is pretty Great.

Everyone knows the west in the most "inclusive" place on Earth, a vast non ethnostate, where there only inherit evil is blue eyes.

You never heard of Kalergi or the 65' immigration act, 90' immigration act etc.
