Mach, there's Tennessee sippin' Whiskey and Bourbon. The best whiskey I ever had was some made by a relative and it was aged corn liquor and the smoothest stuff I ever put to the lip. But to those who imbibe regularly these are different species and that doesn't even get into Rye Whiskey.
I'm happy you enjoyed it and would always raise a toast to the U.S.! However, you might want to try some of the varieties when you get the chance, but in moderation of course.
To be called Bourbon, it must come from Kentucky... Bourbon County. Bourbon County used to be a geographically huge area, but it has since been divided up into 20+ counties.
I believe bourbon is classified as a process and not a location. Unless I’m mistaken, if a distillery in NY makes a whiskey that follows the specs for bourbon (mashbill of min 51% corn, aged 2 years min in new charred American Oak barrels, sourmash proc, etc) - said distillery can market the whiskey as bourbon.

SINGLE BARREL
TEXAS STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY | 94 PROOF
In 2013, the Texas Legislature passed a law permitting Texas distilleries to begin selling their products to guests visiting the distillery property. Victory never tasted so sweet. To celebrate, Garrison Brothers introduced their now-iconic Single Barrel Bourbon. Visitors can buy a bottle of the Single Barrel that they bottle themselves at the Distillery. They can also select their own barrel, bottle the barrel with friends and family, and purchase the bottles and empty barrel at their liquor store of choice. Bottles include custom labels with details about the barrel and whom it was selected for. The response has been overwhelming.

I was watching a Show over Christmas break about an island in Scotland famous for their scotches. It’s all about the peat moss in the area. Little known secret. They buy old oak barrels from American distilleries. Every scotch was aged in an American barrel.

Indeed. Whenever I hand someone a whisky, and the only thing they can tell me is that "it's smooth", I know they don't have a clue.
Mach, I'd recommend donating it to someone that can properly enjoy it, and going and picking up a $20 bottle of Evan Williams. You won't know the difference.
Ohhh I’m enjoying it. It’s excellent but I’m afraid I drank about 80 bucks worth tonight. I just looked online to replace this bottle. I can’t afford it. Jefferson’s Ocean is plenty rich for me.

IMHO, whiskey connoisseur and mixed drink should not be in the same sentence... not sure what the cost of Bulleit Rye is, but if it’s pricier than OGD bonded, then you’re wasting money. Besides, you can get more rye flavor from adding a little more Angostura bitters.

??? It’s public knowledge that used bourbon barrels are shipped to Scotland and Ireland. You’re either thinking of the Orkney islands and prob Highland Park Scotch, or Ardbeg from the island of Islay.

That’s steep for a 750 ml bottle. I can get Georg Dickel Rye for about 20 bucks (it’s Bulleit Rye with the added step of the Tennessee charcoal filter process). Or buy OGD bonded for 22 pet 750 ml bottle for a Rye forward bourbon to make your Manhattans.
Sorry guys, got carried away with all the posts.

Heard good advice awhile back regarding how to enjoy whiskey and mixed drinks. Have one when you want to celebrate or reward yourself for getting a task accomplished. Don’t drink if you are trying to get thru a difficult time. Changes how you view alcohol to a more healthy mindset.

You were told wrong. Bourbon is at least 51% corn. Whiskey is at least 51% of any type of grain (wheat, rye, corn). Scotch is Scottish whisky and only made in Scotland.

Incorrect. Bourbon is at least 51% corn. The whole Bourbon Co thing is a myth.

Bulliet isn't 40 anywhere I've seen it. Mostly under 30.

RE: OT: Bourbons
I think it depends on the method to classify it a bourbon. Most Bourbons are made in Kentucky. But driving through the state going to in laws we see the stuff for all the distilleries but they’re not all in Bourbon County.
Even in the place I’m moving to in a month has a distillery and makes Bourbon and they ain’t in Kentucky. That’s right gdunn is a moving soon.
Anyway. Favorite Bourbon Knob Creek Single Barrell. I do have a fifth of Woodfords I haven’t cracked yet to celebrate the new job and move may wait til we’re there.
Scotch is decent. Gotta get single malt. I like dirty Single malt and speyside.

That is correct. Tennessee Whiskey is filtered through charcoal after distilling. The American standard is 51% corn in the mash. But Mensa is also correct in that Bourbon once was a designation reserved for Kentucky distilleries which used the mash and did not filter through charcoal.

Larceny is awesome, and needs to be enjoyed neat. Great story behind the brand.
