RE: Football Coaching Departures
If Sam Sewell is our next RB coach, it looks like we may be looking to the read option/run heavy offense (a la Ohio) in the future.

ISU's QB rushed for an avg of 61 ypg last year. The team rushed for avg 241 ypg and only passed for 161 ypg. They're leading rusher avg 135 ypg.

I'm not saying we're going to run the exact offense, but with Sewell (potentially) and new OL coach Patton, there looks to be a definite focus on the run game, which is long overdue.

Agree. A dominant running game is needed. To me, it's the missing ingredient to a MAC Championship type of team. Emu should have the talent on the line and in the backfield to get it done.

Think we also need a healthy Mike Glass.

Glass, Jackson, Stiebling, and Grissom are probably all very capable runners. Hutchinson is still on the roster too. I'm still interested to see if one of them will change positions. Grissom at receiver is intriguing to me.

I think key is getting a QB (or QBs) who can play all 12 (or 13 02-13-banana) games using the run pass option to open up our offense.

I see the problem is being more getting good RPO quarterbacking to make RPO offense click than a radical change in offensive philosophy. That certainly wasn't possible with Wiegers.

RE: Football Coaching Departures
Glass is the obvious key to the season. Think we'll see a battle between Jackson & Grissom for the backup role, with Jackson ultimately winning out because of his maturity and leadership skills. Would be perfect if both could get maybe 20% of the early season reps to determine the winner. Good chance we may need a legit second starter with Glass' injury history to date. Stiebeling has had an admirable career in spot duty, but he's kind of stuck in the middle between the present and the future, although Creighton really likes him as a competitor. Nice to have some options.

It's good that our starter (Glass) will have a similar game to his backups (Steibeling, Russel, Jackson). That will make game-planning a lot easier.
