What they should do is keep it the same for at least 5-6 years and see if a rivalry develops. If not switch it up, but this 1-2 year shiet doesn't work. I think UNT- UTSA was building to something good. People make fun of our facilities but the Alamodome and our attendance in the most $ sport we consistently have the highest attendance. Plus we just started and in a few years our facilities and campus will not be something to laugh at.

Which might be a good entree to post Saturday’s WBB score:
Rice 76, UTEP 42.

We’ll get ya back in football next year. Hopefully we won’t have to bother with you and your shenanigans in MBB again this year if we make a decent pod.

I think we will end up in the same pod. Btw you probably already know this but the referees control the clock with a clicker not anyone from UTEP or any home team for that matter.

I didn’t know that until the aftermath of Saturday night’s game. So in spite of wanting to hold this against a biased home-cooking by a clock operator, it seems this was really more like pure incompetence on the part of the refs.

I don’t see how anyone could be expected to start the clock ‘instantaneously’.. The fault here should be with the review process.

And while I expect Rice to make the top ten pod, I know most think we’ll end up in the bottom pod.

I'll believe it when I see something more concrete. Until then, we deserve to be laughed at, although I think that the others on this site have been very fair in their assessment and discussion of our lack of proper D1 facilities. I'm still just amazed that men's basketball, women's volleyball, and baseball are able to put together decent recruiting classes and seasons considering how subpar our facilities are compared to our competitors. If we ever do start gaining a little ground on our facilities, I think the others would be wise to keep their heads on a swivel.

I totally agree man. I just have some insight as what the plan to do, but that's not concrete. Our funraiser should start soon, our goal is high but I have a feeling we will see some upexpected boosters add to the pot. Then break ground within 16 or less months.

rivalry week is the week CUSA has two games on national TV so the most important thing for CUSA to do is hope you have the top 2 teams from the east and west playing on that day.....for a divisional championship

Marshall and FIU will be preseason top 2 in the east
UAB and UNT will be the preseason top 2 in the west

I guess TTT will get it about the same time he figures out CUSA doesn't have a contract with espn to air games on anything but streaming. So never?

I completely understand you can't force a rivalry to exist if the fans simply don't care. HOWEVER, the conferences/schools can do some little things to bring excitement and attention to some of the games. Like create some "battle for the (insert ridiculous gimmick) trophy". And I'm dead serious about this. Each trophy could have something to do w/ the school/state history. It could make people from all over the country stop and be like "wow, that's pretty interesting/unique!" And then they might pay closer attention. It doesn't hurt one bit to do something like this. We need a little out-the-box marketing. For example:

USM vs. La Tech....Battle for the Silver Possum. Create a ridiculously large Silver Possum Trophy because we all know there's tons of Possums in both Ruston and Hattiesburg. It'd be fun and I'm sure the players would like it too seeing as most are usually from the South. And if you're from the South then you've probably got some type of fondness for possums lol.

UTSA vs. UTEP...Battle for the Orange Sombrero. Both schools have orange in their colors. Both schools have communities rich in Mexican culture/history. It's a no-brainer. If not Sombrero, you could use some type of tex-mex food or have a poncho. Battle of the Orange Poncho Sounds cool.

North Texas vs. Rice...Battle for the T-Bone Steak Trophy...because we all know Houston and Denton/Dallas are cities know for having good steakhouses. What better to show it then having a giant t-bone steak trophy.

UAB vs. MTSU...Battle for the Golden Guitar. Both Birmingham and Murfreesboro have lots of history w/ the blues and music in general. Another no-brainer if you ask me. The only thing would be that UAB/MTSU are crossover teams and this rivalry would be the only one that isn't played every year.

WKU vs. Marshall....Battle for the Rusted Railroad Spike. Bowling Green and Huntington both have a rich history in the railroad industry. Have some type of railroad trophy/hammer or some type of railroad spike or something.

ODU vs. Charlotte...Battle for the Golden Water Canteen. Both cities have a rich history in the Civil War. Pretty much every soldier had their own water canteen. This could be a unique homage to their history.

FIU vs. FAU...Battle for Shula's Whistle. Have some type of giant whistle trophy symbolizing Don Shula's whistle. Another no-brainer.

Yes, these seem a little ridiculous but the sheer ridiculousness of it could surely shine some type of light on the games/schools/conference. Just my two cents.

The Marshall/WKU game is already been deemed the Moonshine Throwdown.

I would be fine with playing WKU or USM for our rivalry game.

I see what you are saying TTT, but I see what the other folks are saying too. The best way is a compromise: have a C-USA rivalry week when the students are still in school . Having a C-USA rivalry week on actual rivalry week is a bad idea IMO. The week before wouldn’t be too bad, IMO, for a C-USA rivalry week.

What they ought to do is play the crossover games FIRST so that we don’t end up with what we got last year.
