Then once I got to college age and realized how insufferable X fans are, I moved on to loathing them and rooting against them no matter the opponent. I wish for nothing but the worst (on the court, obviously) for that school in basketball. Would love for Travis Steele to end the streak of successful head coaching hires.

I also casually rooted for X when I was a kid as well. I grew up very close to Cincinnati Gardens so it was easier to attend X games than UC games at Riverfront and the Shoe. My freshmen year was the year that X beat #1 UC and their fans became insufferable to me. My best friend from high school went to X and we hung out throughout college and I had to deal with the vitriol of his friends during basketball season. My friend actually liked UC and his X buddies wanted to hang out at the UC bars since our women were better looking. My mother went to X for her Masters and she doesn't like X at all. My father use to like X until the late 90s. I'm not a fan of X mainly due to the hypocripsy of their fans.

I've told the story of my experience at the UC-X game Huggins' first year on threads on here many times, so I won't rehash it again here.

However, the epitome of the Xavier fans was not the punk kids several rows back cursing us and throwing sh** at us. Those are in every crowd.

The true essence of Xavier fans were the distinguished looking 70's-ish couple sitting right behind us that leaned over out of the way so that the punks could have a clear shot at us.

Maybe the seventy-something wife was afraid she'd be referred to as a "blue hair" if struck with the paint they like to sling over there?

Seriously though, I've only attended one Shootout at X and had no real problems, other than a few immature remarks. But I also believe most of what I've read on this board over the years about the physical and verbal abuse directed at UC folks. What irritated me was the fact that it was never good enough for them to win and just celebrate that. It was always about demeaning UC's players, coaches, fans and considerable tradition.

I know I'm in the minority on this point but if UC could get a long term home & home deal with OSU and/or move to the B12 or ACC, I'd just end the series.
