Rank the AAC: Basketball Edition
As of games played through 1/12, here are the league standings:
UCF (12-2, 2-0)
Houston (16-1, 3-1)
Cincinnati (14-3, 3-1)
Temple (13-3, 3-1)
SMU (11-5, 3-1)
Memphis (10-6, 2-1)
USF (12-4, 2-2)
ECU (8-7, 1-2)
Tulsa (11-6, 1-3)
UConn (10-7, 1-3)
Wichita State (7-8, 0-3)
Tulane (4-11, 0-3)
I’ll update this with relevant standings but I love rankings so have at it. For me it’s easier to do tiers:
Tier 1: UCF, Houston, Temple
Tier 1B: Cincinnati
Tier 2: Memphis, SMU, USF
Tier 3: UConn, ECU, Tulsa, Wichita State
Tulane

So far Temple has a solid w/l both OOC and in the American. But the ratings systems don’t like us. This will be a big problem getting into the tournament as we have no margin for error. Our sos and win percentage are respectable don’t understand why we are hovering just below 70 in these ratings.

This league is going to be so freaking good when UConn, Memphis and Wichita State get their mojo back.
In no particular order these programs could be AAC's scarry bunch "not in our house ".
Cincinnati
Houston
Memphis
UConn
Temple
Wichita State
I didn't add UCF ^^^ b/c they still lack basketball history.

6 national championships and 23 Final Four appearances in that group of 6. No reason why all of these programs shouldn't be perennial tournament teams going forward. UCF and SMU have also shown recently they have the ability to build something special.

Yeah - this actually seems about right - might even bump Cincinnati down a spot or two based on the last two games. Mick ain't happy with the boys for sure.
real test for Cincinnati will be the February stretch (plus Jan 27):
Jan 27: @ Temple
Feb 2: vs. SMU
Feb 7: @ Memphis
Feb 10: @Houston
Feb 17: vs. Wichita
Feb 21: vs. UCF
Feb 24: @ UCONN (UCONN's redemption game?)
Feb 27: @ SMU
Making it through that will be brutal, based on what we've seen in conference so far...I think a lot of teams will be out for blood against the Bearcats.

Ouch... Definitely a brutal mad February
When this league was first put together this is exactly what was envisioned, a real tough league and no easy victories.

Wow... That's amazing
With as deep pockets SMU has no reason why they too can be a contender among AAC's big 6... UCF I think they have a much higher hill to climb to be a basketball scary program.
