Maybe we can go 0.5OO in the MAC and have a 20 win season (thanks to playing weak non conference opponents) - isn't that the benchmark of a successful program - Oh wasn't that the KD strategy for our friends down the road. When Walker and Avery were freshmen I thought wow this team will be great when they're seniors - my mistake

Can’t blame the coach for setting up his schedule to make it easier for him to collect his bonus. You have to blame the AD for setting up a bonus system like that.

The MAC games are weird so far this year. It's tough to predict who will win each game, but a lot of the games haven't been close. Ball St had been looking real good and OU hadn't. So OU beats Ball St at Ball St by 18. Akron took a 17 point loss at NIU today too.

Sendy better have a trust fund for Jimmy Hall's future children. That guy showed up on a March weekend in 2016 and saved Rob's job. I'd almost rather we lose to Akron in the championship than have several more years of Rob's weak game planning.
As far as our non-conference schedule, none of those wins look impressive. If beating Oregon State and Vandy are what we are going to hang our hats on that doesn't say much. Those are 2 examples of bad P-5 teams. Not even mediocre.

The Oregon St win could end up looking real good by the end of the season. They started out PAC 12 play 2-0 including an OT win over USC the other night. In a year where the PAC 12 is down and Oregon just lost potential lottery pick Bol Bol for the season, Oregon St could make some noise in conference.

The 13 point loss to Louisville is looking better too. They just handed Roy Williams his worst home loss during his tenure at UNC.

Let’s just hope the 34 point to Eastern Michigan looks good at some point also.

I did some checking. You have to go all the way back to the 1953-54 season to find the last time the first three MAC games included at least two losses by at least 20 points. Believe me, there were plenty of absolutely rotten teams during that stretch that were unable to "accomplish" what this team has.

That is a really interesting observation and I wonder to what extent this might relate to the rapid rise that transfers play in putting together teams with little chemistry leading to inconsistent play. Both Kent and Akron got badly beaten by poor 3 point defense as well a completely pounded on the boards. I don't see an easy solution for our lack of size inside - so I expect us to continue to get out rebounded by the more physical teams in the MAC

I'm sure that is just one thing, OLNWFLSH, that contributes to what, in my opinion, is a decline in the quality of team play over the years. You just don't have as many players come in as freshman and stay their entire collegiate career. It seems like that with most teams the coach has to almost start from scratch each season.

It's one game and was a terrible matchup for this group. EMU is giant inside and we lost two guys that we really needed to be there to bang. EMU had 6'10, 6'11, 240 and 245 and then 6'9 on the wing with 6'7 coming off the bench. We had 6'8 227 and 6'7 230. Thats why rebounds were 39-27 and they had 8 blocks. It's not that difficult here.

Sucks to lose that bad, but just a bad matchup. Had to make shots and we didnt.

Then play Frederick more. Remember, he is the 6'9 kid that started for the better part of December and logged 7 minutes against the Giants that are Eastern Michigan. The same team that scored 36 points against Rutgers (must have been a bad matchup for EMU) but managed 95 against Kent State.

Being tall is one thing, being good is another.

Rebounding wasn't a problem for Kent in this game. In fact getting out rebounded by only 12 tells me we handled their size on the glass just fine. The problem is we missed 40 shots and EMU only missed 18. So they had 22 more defensive rebound opportunities than we did. Getting out rebounded by 12 with that disparity in defensive rebound chances isn't bad at all. Oddly enough, rebounding might be the only aspect we did ok in.
