RE: Could the ACC leverage ND for a 6th FB game?
When the current deal is up I think the ACC Should leverage for either a sixth game or full membership---start with full membership, settle for 6 games. What are Ntre Dame's alternatives:

Join the Big Ten--the whole aversion to full membership rules this one out

Join the BE--get paid a lot less for BB but get to play any 12 football teams they want

To me the 6th game isn't a bad deal. The ACC holds some cards here and shouldn't hold back playing them.

Muskie, if we force them into the ACC, they become just another school and just another game. We lose what is special about ND. We also lose the NBC nationwide over the air platform. Milking the cow keeps it alive for years. Butcher the cow and you eat it once.

I'm sure the Big 12 would like to add Notre Dame with a deal that is similar to the ACC. I think that would solve many of their problems except a travel partner for WVU.

ND already will get a full ACC Network share of profits, just like Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina.

In 2037? There may be an entirely different college football setup by then.

Yes, I agree it is nice to get some football games on another network like NBC. Makes me wonder what IF the ACC had managed to get a combo deal with both ABC/ESPN as well as FOX like the B12, PAC, and now the B1G back in 2010. Swofford and his need to reward Raycom for their loyalty - best case interpretation - put the league in a huge hole.

Still of the 12 games played against ND at the ACC home venue, 10 of them have aired on ABC and the other two on ESPN. Meanwhile 12 of the 13 have aired on NBC with one airing on NBCSN. The 10 ABC games attracted a total of 54.404 million viewers while the 12 NBC games attracted a total of 33.055 million viewers. The downside of the NBC games is that they more often then not compete against the CBS SEC game in the mid-afternoon slot.

Cheers,
Neil
