There are also contracts involved. You can't change the parties of a contract without the other side agreeing.

For the record, my idea was for football only.

Are you honestly saying you've never heard a P5 fan/commentator say that the P5 should break away from the NCAA?

Just to be clear, I don't want to split either. I'm all for inclusion, and in case you've never seen it, this is my idea for a true, inclusive playoff for FBS...

But, back to the split idea I talked about above. Did you really look at it? All G5 schools should be in favor of this. It offers a direct path to P5 membership for football. In your case, it offers a very good chance of USF claiming a spot.

Most of the split advocates have been self-loathing G5 people like the NIU AD. Other than the top programs, most don't want a split because they realize they're whistling through the graveyard. Once this split happens, then it'll be a matter of time before the next one, at which point more of the hangers-on will be jettisoned. The G5 are the canaries in the coal mine.

And yes, I did read your proposal. As others have rightfully pointed out, promotion and relegation is never going to happen. Too many will realize that it'd be a "there but for the grace of God go I" for their schools, and they won't want to chance it.

When a split does happen there will be no negotiations and very few concessions.
