RE: Massey Composite
I was looking at a couple of polls that rated Alabama #1 (I counted 8). Whatever criteria they used, the SEC excelled.
Donchess SEL
1. AL 1. AL
3. UGA 3. UGA
6. LSU 6. LSU
10. FL 7. FL
11. MO 11. MO
12. UK 9. UK
13. A&M 10. A&M
14. MSU 14. MSU
18. USCe 16. USCe
20. Aub 19. AUb
33. Vandy 28. Vandy
37 TN 34. TN
Both had Ole Miss and Arkansas appropriately low. But both had 10 SEC teams in the top 20.

Cincy at 31. And Army at 29 - well below the polls.

MWC with 3 in top 25, AAC 1

Yes, it belies the notion that the human pollsters are biased towards the SEC. It's actually the opposite, at least this year.

RE: Massey Composite
you say the computers are very fond of the 3 5 loss SEC teams....

Well, looking at the rest of the P5, there were only 22 teams this year that finished outside the SEC from the P5- with 5 losses or fewer. Only 15 of them with 4 losses or fewer.

Even if you include the SEC- only 21 teams in P5 football finished with 4 losses or fewer. So for Missouri and Auburn to be 21 and 22- that's not as crazy as you would think....

Agreed.

Also, it definitely helped their computer numbers that all but one of their FBS nonconference opponents had enough wins to go to Bowl games:

Auburn was 5-0 against #13 Washington (10-4), Purdue (6-7), Liberty (6-6), Southern Miss (6-5).

Mississippi State was 4-1, with blowout wins @ Kansas State (5-7), Louisiana Tech (8-5), and UL-Lafayette(7-7). Their loss was a close one to 9-4 Iowa.

Missouri was 4-1, with wins @Purdue (6-7), vs Memphis (8-6) and vs Wyoming (6-6). Their loss was a close one to 7-6 OK State.

RE: Massey Composite
The ones with Alabama #1 were pretty ridiculous. I don't know how you get Missouri #11.

I didn't say the computers were crazy, just those particular polls.

I think the SEC's overwhelming ooc record helps them in the computer polls. Its a feedback loop that pulls up teams like Missouri with lesser resumes.
