No day games in September and the first half of October. Add two more teams. Go back to an 8 conference game schedule.

1 - release San Jose St
2 - release San Jose St
3 - strongly encourage all football teams visiting Hawaii to utilize the Week 0 exception
4 - bolt the door so San Jose State can't sneak in

We'd have 10 schools for all sports (excellent #) and 11 football schools, with the much-underutilized aspect of 6 football teams able to play in Week 0 EVERY YEAR.

Not going to concern myself with adding schools (cough-cough-yBu-gag) because no school would boost what we've got going, except maybe Stanford or USC. Which is to type, we have who we have.

The old Big 8 and the original Big 12 aren't coming back. With that in mind, I'd be fine with this. Or, substitute OSU or Texas in the position of KU in this scenario.

In other words, you want your presidents and commissioner to stop letting TV buy the right to control your game times.

Way fewer weeknight games, or at a minimum put them on ESPN and not ESPNU.

Would you keep the 8-game schedule? You'd have to drop the protected crossovers in that case, although with the Alabama schools in the East, there really aren't any necessary crossovers to protect.

Drop the schools who have had football teams but have historically struggled: TXST and ULM

Replace them with CUSA schools looking to get off that sinking ship: Marshall, USM, ODU, UAB, and La Tech

New Sun Belt: ODU, Marshall, App State, Georgia Southern, Troy, UAB, USM, Arkansas State, UL Lafayette, La Tech

ODU is a recent startup too, even though they did have football a long time ago. Also, I'm not sure CUSA is any more of a sinking ship than the Sun Belt. Both seem to be unkillable Franken-conferences.

That's 16/18. Duke has done more in football lately than Virginia.

No change in SEC membership but get rid of divisions and go to a 9 game schedule

Everyone gets 4 permanent annual rivals and then rotate through the other teams

You play every conference mate home and away at least once in a standard 4 year college career

Best 2 final records meet in the championship

RE: If You Could Change Anything About Your Team’s Current Conference...
I'd love to see a nice #1 bowl game for the MAC for the years they aren't selected by the CFP.

The MAC at one time sent its champ out west to play the PCAA/Big West champion, sometimes against Fresno St who is in the MWC today. It was the only true champ vs. champ arrangement for the MAC on a regular basis.

An arrangement with the Holiday Bowl and Independence Bowls to host the G5 champs not in the CFP (G4) would be a good first move. In a year like 2018 maybe the SBC champ would play in the Holiday and UAB vs. NIU in the Independence Bowl. This year of course NIU played UAB in the Boca Raton Bowl so I don't think its too far off.

In a year of course where the AAC doesn't make it the could play the MWC or CUSA out West in the Holiday Bowl which for a 9-3 AAC champ would not be a bad deal as far as bowl quality is concerned.

Everyone is the G5 would have the same amount of guaranteed bowls regardless if they place a team in the CFP or not so it streamlines things.

Then I think opening up the Alabama bowls to CUSA in exchange for opening up New Orleans would be a nice goal. This is looking like its going to happen for 2020 since the MAC has only 4 slots in the new Myrtle Beach Bowl.

In order of preference:

1) A G5 arrangement for the G4 (Holiday, Independence)
2) MAC #1 vs. MWC #1 in the Holiday Bowl.
3) MAC #1 vs. CUSA #1 in an ESPN owned bowl.

I'd even go for a conditional arrangement with the MWC where the MWC would have the Holiday bowl every year as either #1/#2 while the MAC could only send its #1 so in a CFP year the #2 would be back East playing in ESPN owned bowl.

The MAC had slots in the Poinsettia Bowl for 2014-2019 before it was disbanded so I think they'd consider the Holiday if it drops down to a G5 bowl.

I wasn't surprised SJSU improved with Bleymaier as AD but it didn't seem like it moved the needle much in support.

Few years ago I pulled up one of those cost of living calculators used Monroe, Louisiana as the city from and San Jose as the city moving to and put in the athletic budget for ULM. To have the same spending power in San Jose as Monroe, the SJSU budget would need to be about 5% higher.

Now that's obviously not an apples to apples comparison but $70,000 as an assistant in Monroe you would need about twice that in San Jose. It has to be hard to recruit and retain staff.

The Big Ten is the most awkward league with its divisions even though they work on a map. I think it would be the perfect league to let the schools work out four games on their own and then the league office working with TV fills out the rest of the league schedule and then just pit the two highest ranked teams in the title game.

  1. Add Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and one other team from the Big-12.
  2. Realign to an east-west alignment (East: Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Big-12 tagalong, West: Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, USC, UCLA, California, Stanford)
  3. Collapse the PAC-12 regional channels into 4: Northwest, California, Mountain, and Southwest.
I'm sure that I'll come up with more. Just give me more time. 03-wink
