RE: MWC TV CONTRACT COMING IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS
Does the Boise preferential treatment continue ?
Their not really far and away better than SDSU or USU anymore.
They might get better ratings but if it only benefits them who cares.
If they continue to get a much bigger share I could see a defection.
Or Maybe Boise tries for an AAC spot if treated as an equal probably a five million dollar difference.

Air Force football only BSC/Summit for olympics easy add.
Boise football only BW/WAC/ Summit for olympics
CSU or New Mexico full members meet academic requirements close to Western AAC schools.

Boise State’s home games are separated from the rest of the MWC contract into perpetuity, regardless of the Broncos relative strength to other conference members. It was a condition of our return to the MWC when the Big East (which we were excited to join) mutated into the AAC (not so much).

The other MWC presidents understood the value that a nationally recognized *Name* program like Boise State brings, and found our terms acceptable. When it comes to football, Boise State’s presence in the league lifts the entire conference; no other school can say that because none have been so successful for so long. Sure, an SDSU, USU or Fresno might have a few good years (which is also good for the conference), but none have sustained success like the Broncos have.

If Boise State becomes a cellar dweller for a decade and another single school becomes the flag bearer during that entire duration, you might have a point...until then, Vandal, go back to stinking up the Big Sky.

MWC can end that whenever a contract ends. And it will end if Boise ceases to add extra value.

I took wood shop instead of typing in 7th grade ... 03-drunk

No joke - my senior year, a buddy of mine convinced me to take typing as an awesome chance to hang out with girls. (This was almost 40 years ago, so get your "OK Boomer" takes ready). Anyway, while that course didn't get me laid, in the end it was probably the most useful class I took in high school.

USFFan

I took typing in 8th and 9th and woodshop in 10th. Both very useful.

RE: MWC TV CONTRACT COMING IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS
Boise State is no longer a flight risk. Bob Kustra retired, and so has Chris Petrersen for that matter. They lack the academics to be considered by a power conference, and they are too much of a logistical nightmare for the AAC, especially with the problem of Olympic sports.

I was surprised to see that Boise State has a smaller total athletic budget than San Jose State. But they get more bang for the buck, subsidize far less, and get more apparel revenue than the other G5 schools. From a financial standpoint there is no question it is by far the best run G5 program and the most sustainable.

Given that I expect the tilt toward performance and broadcast preference (i.e., schools are paid a bonus for appearances on ESPN or ESPN2) will continue in the revenue split, although it might be a little less pronounced. That same performance criteria was part of the pitch to Gonzaga. While Boise State has been the primary beneficiary, the clause is not specific to Boise State (It doesn't say "Boise State" anywhere, just sets the criteria which Boise State meets and few others do very often). It does mean that a top performing school, with the bonus money will be earning an extra $1-2M in a given year over the base. The base is still better than all the G5 except BYU (BYU's contract is also based on level of TV appearance, bonus when a game is picked up by ESPN/ESPN2) and the American.

That clause effectively protects the MWC from being poached easily, since it cuts the gap to the AAC for the top performing schools., such that it's at best a wash when the placement of Olympic sports is fed into the equation.

Looks like this contract must not be great if there are no leaks.

It's not based on appearences anymore, Boise automatically gets its extra cut and will do so through perpetuity, as well as having to sign off on any deal that involves selling the BSU home games.

It's finally here.... going to Fox/CBS. About 35 Million. 20 from CBS/15 from Fox.

Doesn't include the Boise thing with ESPN.

I don't think that's necessarily true.

The MWC ratings suck without Boise. I can't imagine those networks spending $35M a year on the MWC without getting Boise.

I do think that Boise still has a special deal where they get $1.8M off the top. Which is why the 10 schools will get $3M a year on a $35M/year deal -- because Boise is getting $4.8M.

And because the football value of $3M does not exceed Hawaii's $2.3M island TV deal, that's why Hawaii doesn't participate...

nope- The league’s media deals are complicated because Boise State’s home games are negotiated separately from the rest of the conference.

Ehh, not 100%.

Quote:League sources said negotiations on several pieces of the deal are continuing and won’t be completed for another month, meaning the dollar amount is not finalized.

“The story is inaccurate as reported,” a Mountain West statement said. “No deal has been signed by any party, and negotiations are ongoing.” https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/spo...x-cbs-espn

San Diego Union Tribune does say CBS and Fox, with Fox "replacing ESPN." Not sure the status of the Boise-ESPN-MWC contract.

The MWC basically had 3 contracts, the CBS contract, the ESPN contract for the Boise games, and the ESPN contract for 10 alernating picks. Things won't be finalized for "another month."
