P5 - G5 split
IF, the P5 and G5 split and create their own divisions making G5 the new FCS...would you support and follow your team the same as you do now? or not playing in the top division diminishes your enthusiasm.

Wouldn't be any different than now, but maybe UCF will get us at least a spot into a 8 team playoff in future....I don't think the split will happen due to P5 teams not able to have enough wins to get to a bowl game..

RE: P5 - G5 split
I made an annual financial commitment to MT long ago. But, the greater contributions came as a direct result of Dr. Walker's decision to go FBS (from 1998 till now) and to make athletics "The Front Porch" of our university. If we ever formally split, I would discontinue any contributions to/or for the benefit of, the MT Football Program. As a longtime BRAA member, I think it would be a death knell for MT Sports.

RE: P5 - G5 split
The answer is yes and yes. I will support the same but my enthusiasm will be lower.

For my part I think a split is unlikely because university leaders have seen the results of previous divisions. While they may like cashing those fat checks from ESPiN and others, leaders at lesser P5s realize that a split means they are now the bottom teams. Fans don't want to watch their teams get blown out every week. Stadiums will empty and ESPiN will use that to justify the next division and the next until they get what they really want. 30 some teams in the unofficial NFL D-league. Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, USC; these few will get paid even more while the Dukes, Northwesterns, Vanderbilts drop off. Eventually the NC States, Ole Miss's, Utah's, Nebraska's will fall away too.

I would be done. The NFL and MLB drove me away, CFB could too.

I would push our administration to go independent. As long as the P5 continue to allow Notre Dame to remain independent, then they would have to do the same for us, provided we fill our schedule with P5 programs. If they would not, then we file suit. I'm sure other programs would go independent and attempt to stay out of a lower classification.

If these jokers threatened to split, then the G5 must join together as a collective and refuse to play these a-holes in anything (even tiddly winks). Then, when 2/3 of them are 5-7/4-8 and can’t get to a bowl. We will have a hearty chuckle, drink, and be merry.

Notre Dame isn’t really independent. Yes they are called that but they are forced to play that weird ass sh tty partial ACC schedule. They should of told the ACC to suck it and kept everything in the Big East.

RE: P5 - G5 split
Sad thing is, Norte Dame fits perfectly in the B1G footprint both in geography and academics...far better than the ACC. I would have loved to see them there. I mean, I’m a huge ND fan, but they’d fit better in a conference IMHO.

I agree; but, it is unlikely that the G5 would stick together. The AAC has their P6 campaign going.

RE: P5 - G5 split
As long as we could still schedule P5 teams incl home-and-home games, etc... G5 probably would have its own Top 25 polls, playoffs? However, teams like UCF, USF, Boise St, BYU, Houston, Memphis etc should remain G5 then. Don’t want G5 to be a glorified FCS.

If the split happened, you’d NEVER get a home game. You’d be viewed even lower than what we are now.

Edit: We’d and we’d.

Then they would just change the bowl requirements.

It’d be hard to get anyone excited over 4-8 Purdue vs. 5-7 Oregon State. Granted, we aren’t too far off of that now.

The G5 will NEVER "join together as a collective". In hopes of being included in the group of cool kids, the AAC would do anything the P5 asked of them.

clt says all conferences should be disbanded, and then reassigned by tv markets & airport daily flights.

The G5 would fade into oblivion within a couple of seasons.

You'd have a lot more Vanderbilts. Vanderbilt is clearly not on the same level as Alabama. But they are perceived as better than the G5 just for being in the SEC. But Vanderbilt is not the revenue generator that say a South Carolina or Mississippi State is. Those middle of the pack P5 teams would really get hurt.

Can Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and the ilk sustain the fan support that they currently have if they can no longer buy wins? Interesting question.
