Richt Retiring
I know Miami is not an SEC school, but Richt was a former SEC coach, so I hope this news has a place here. Wonder if something wasn't working right behind the scenes at Miami and after a season or two off, Richt will come back.
Another SEC connection: Already hearing Stoops (Kentucky) might be interested. I'm assuming they go back to Butch Davis, and I've also read Rex Ryan could be a candidate, so not sure what the likelihood of Stoops leaving KY actually is.

Stoops rumor? Could be a destabilizing rumor before the Penn State game leaked by a Big 10 source, could be a give me a raise rumor issued by a Stoops agent, or it could be false.
Agents love this time of year to put the squeeze on A.D.'s particularly if their fans are happy and prior to their bowl games for fear of losing the advantage.
IMO, anyone who takes the Miami job is nuts. If Alston wins Miami may not make the next cut since it is a private with cash flow problems from time to time. If you are a coach with young to teenage children it is not a climate you want to raise your kids in. And as someone else has said tonight Miami wants Alabama/ Oklahoma results on a Vanderbilt/Wake Forest budget.

If that is the case (Alston win leading to Miami and others not making the cut), I'm still in favor of a Magnolia league: Duke, Vandy, Wake Forest, Miami, etc. would be a great conference to watch.
However, we've seen so far small, incremental shifts. Even if Alston wins, I'm not sure how quickly we will see the structure change. I'm thinking Miami is a decent job for the next coach, but potentially not for the next-next coach.

Manny Diaz takes over at Miami. Interesting that he had just taken Temple's offer.
In other news, Rich Rodriguez is now Ole Miss' new OC.

FWIW, Diaz says he didn't know Richt was going to retire after the bowl game.
Perhaps JR & co. can talk Richt out of retiring in time to replace Malzahn?
As for Rich Rod at Ole Miss - they won't win any championships, but I expect more upsets in the SEC West

1. Diaz indeed did know.
2. Auburn will be dropping a wad on the next coach and he won't be a retread.
3. Rich Rod didn't generate enough offense at Arizona to keep his job.

What makes you think Diaz knew? All the evidence says he did not.
His agent had already agreed or it wouldn't have happened that fast. If his agent knew, he knew. Richt served notice and that notice was not released until Diaz had in principle agreed to accept. The notice went public and the agreement was finalized probably in that order. Athletic Departments simply don't move that quickly.
What might have been more truthful was Diaz saying he didn't know that Richt was retiring until Miami contacted his agent after the bowl game. The timing is about right for that to have occurred.

RE: Richt Retiring
Richt is a good coach overall, but most seasons he has a loss or two that were real headscratchers that knocked his teams out of certain championship games.
10-2 seasons, when reached, may be his plateau.
Rich Rodiquez should have stayed at WVU. Neither Michigan or Arizona matched well for him.
At Ole Miss, he's back to what he did at Clemson:. OC.

I don't think Richt was a fan of the grind either. I can't blame him for that.
In a simpler era, he probably would have been considered a better coach.
