Saturday should be fun. We're gonna have to play better than we did tonight to win.

Our best player went 2/16 from the floor tonight but we still found a way to win. This would have been an automatic L last year. If Smith and Glenn play for GS we probably lose tonight also the way Pearson played for us. That being said, he shouldn't have many games like he had tonight. He certainly hasn't had many in his career at TXST so far.

Always love watching Simonds vs. Pearson when GSU and TXST play. It's been a great battle for the past two seasons.

Jay is paid rather well to be a homer you know. Just because Stolz won't say nary a negative thing about anything, don't think that makes him normal for Radio play by play voices.

For the record, Jay pretty much said straight up the line was way off on this one. It was 23 points off.

AState wins in the Cajun Dome for the 2nd time in 3 years, which is very unusual in our history. 94-83 Completely outclassed a Bob Marlin team on the glass, which is sort of the equivalent of putting up 100 on Danny Kasper.

Varnado was out for Troy, so automatically Troy had the odds stacked against them. Without Varnado, Troy is crap... he's the only reason Phil Cunningham still has his job, unfortunately.

Was impressed by the play of #13, Jackson. He’s extremely quick, has good hands, runs with an almost effortless fluid motion. Can shoot from the outside, and defends pretty well.

Coastal dominated Troy 88-75.

I am sure if you asked the LR coach prior to the game if he would take 62% from the field and 84 points he wouldn't have blinked an eye. ULM shot 76% from the field in the 2d half. Fun game to watch.

I was impressed with Pippens. That boy can shoot. No one better sleep on LR. They got some freshmen that can play and I got a feeling they are going to be a tough out by the end of the season. Your big man needs to learn to turn and shoot. He could have eaten us up with his size. A nice baby hook would make him real tough.

I wish the belt was a two bid league. We have a tough conference this year.

RE: Sun Belt basketball schedule for Week 9 (Mon. 12/31 thru Sun. Jan 6)
I think it has the ability to be, if:
- Bottom half of the league takes basketball more seriously. Hard for the top half to ever have a shot when playing the bottom half pulls them down so much. I think there are multiple fanbases on here that would say basketball isn't a priority for their athletic administration.
- Scheduling gets better. This is being semi-addressed with a limit of 2 non-D1 games (many teams in other leagues play up to 4) and the little scheduling requirement of at least 2 games per year with a "peer conference" (think it was CUSA and Horizon? Can't remember.). Also, the whole pod structure goes into place next season. That will at least get the top of the conference playing more games against the other teams in the top and help with the first point above with the bottom teams dragging down the top.
- The obvious one, league has to simply win more games vs. decent opponents. Our overall record as a conference looks decent right now but if you take out all the non-D1 games and wins vs. SWAC/MEAC schools its just not good enough to warrant a 2nd bid right now.

Glad to see the Sun Belt put forth an effort to address basketball with the "strategic plan". Key is probably to get all the schools on board and treating basketball more similarly to football and less like women's cross country.

The six teams that won Thursday night all had something in common:

All six shot it well beyond the arc. Coastal made 15 triples. ULM made 17. A-State made 10.

All six teams outshot their opponent from three point range.

This has always been a guard's league. And, if you keep track this season, I'm willing to bet most teams that win will win the three point battle.

If you've got multiple weapons beyond the arc, you can win in this league. (That doesn't mean you can be terrible in other parts of the game LOL)

One thing that has been constant with the Cajuns this year is their struggle to rebound the basketball. They are among the worst in defensive rebound percentage. Very unusual for a Marlin team. The player who was recruited to replace Bryce Washington tore his ACL in the state HS basketball tournament last February and is redshirting. And, as mentioned earlier, Malik Marquetti (who was averaging about five boards per game) tore his ACL on 12/29 and is lost for the season.

Marquetti was the Cajuns best overall player and most versatile. I honestly don't know how many games the Cajuns will win without him.

Someone mentioned the pods and the peer conference matchups that start next year. That is the brainchild of Mark Adams and was a way mid major conferences could boost their RPI. We announced we were doing that but then something happened. The NET came out and replaced RPI. Check out this post on his Facebook about the new NET rankings and how they compare to RPI:

https://m.facebook.com/enthusiadams/post...__tn__=K-R

It’s worth the read if you are into hoops at all. If you do not want to read the entire thing, bottom line is the NET is not helping us, it’s just more of the rich getting richer. But I’m sure no one is surprised.

Monroe is cheating...Surely its against the rules to have two guards that good on the same team...

I mean, sure, we decided to shoot like 30 percent from the field again, but my god.
