RE: Local Recruits/Local Media
The problem I have seen with locals is that they have no understanding just how fast the college game is and just how big the players are, especially after a year or two of a college S&C program and decent nutrition. They think because someone was a good high school player that he can jump right on a college team. They don't realize that on any given night, their stud player might face one FBS talent opponent. When they get to college, they face more in one game than they faced all year.

Like Golota said, ULM offered all the local kids that had FBS offers. We got one, ULL got two and one kid hasn't signed. Then you have the local idiot who thinks a 5'10" center has a shot at any FBS program. Actually said he would take the NE Louisiana all star team and thought they would match up. 01-wingedeagle Only a handful of those guys got FBS offers. They can't figure out that if we aren't offering and Tech isn't offering and Ark St and ULL aren't giving them a call, perhaps they aren't FBS material. Hell, a lot of local kids didn't even get FCS offers.

I’d sure as hell take the top 10 NE La recruits every single season. But you can’t build a complete roster from up there. Same in Acadiana.

Most years I would take a lot of players up here. Problem is, when there is good talent then it isn't just us recruiting. Same with Lafayette and surrounding areas. This year there were only about 4 FBS level players in which ULL and ULM went head to head. None of the big schools really pushed into the area because the talent level was down. What this idiot said was he would take a matchup of the all stars with ULM, not what we recruited vs what was on the all star team. One of the centers on the all star team was 5'10" 265. Maybe he could play DIII. This was a typical "I watch high school football so I must know everything" kind of guy.

RE: Local Recruits/Local Media
Our local media has been really good to us, Austin American Stateman beat writer Keff Ciardello (@Keff_C) in particular.

Many of them have pointed out how unwilling the AD department has been to work with them on stories, even as far as not returning phone calls.

A local news station wanted to do a story a few years ago about a football player and the station pitched the idea to the TXST SID several times but he never returned any requests.

The player they wanted to highlight returned from 2 tours in Afghanistan, walked on to TXST football, and got a scholarship the same week that he found out his wife was pregnant with twins.

A 3 win football team needs some these types of stories to highlight the good things going on in their program, and there was a willing news agency pitching to highlight his story, and the fat lazy incompetent SID at TXST didn’t return several attempts to get the story.
