If Davis goes, Sac St and Cal Poly will follow to keep their rivalries.

UC Davis suppoorter: “We are just too big, and prestigious, to stay FCS.”

Suddenly, the Big Sky needs Dixie St.

UC Davis is a top candidate for the MWC if they expand their stadium. The PAC 12 later isn’t out of the question.

You left this out.

In fact, Edwards says if UCD can win a couple of FCS championships over the next five or 10 years, movement up to the Football Bowl Subdivision is within reach.

“Of course, we have to be successful at the level that we’re playing,” says the retired Saratoga developer, a 1960 football-playing Davis graduate. “We have to be at the top of the Big Sky.

One year at the top isn't enough for them to make the move. They need a longer period of dominance.

You mean Dan Hawkins being Dan Hawkins.

How? Sacramento State has some land and no other resources. Cal Poly has the resources to drop football and still use Spanos Stadium for a sport they can make even bigger. Never mind that, per the conventional wisdom here (I half believe), the state won't let them do business with a conference operating in Texas.

I will leave the Pac-12 pipe dream out of this and address something else. UC Davis has the endowment to go places (up to a certain limit- it's not a Pac-12 endowment). If Fresno decides not to use any sort of clout they might have, there's a small possibility Davis could sweet talk the Mountain West into something. Thing is... Dan Hawkins knows where he is. He'd even made interesting comments about "Davis guys" when referring to Mike Belotti, Chris Petersen, et cetera while he was coach at Boise State. His point, though, was that "Davis guys" think differently. Just because Hawkins is making a sale doesn't mean that Davis will buy... believe it or not.

However, if Davis wants to do it, you'll see a couple surprises.

I'm just not holding my breath.
