It seems like the Astros tournament is getting some in-state competition.

Interesting. RR Express are an Astros affiliate.

Starting in 2019. They were affiliated with the Rangers for the 8 prior seasons, and of course, the Astros, prior to that, thru 2010.

There are plenty of good college teams willing to play in Texas in mid-Feb. to support multiple early season tournaments.

Will be nice to see non-UT D-1 college baseball in the ATX.

Interesting Rice connection there. Ryan Holloway was formerly with the Rice AD under Del Conte (I think) and I worked with him as part of a student outreach group back in 2009, and he runs the company Peak Sports MGMT that is organizing this event. He is also responsible for the Frisco Baseball Classic where Miss St, TT, Sam Houston, and Nebraska are playing in March.

Apparently the pros of high quality baseball rubbed off on him while he was at Rice.

And what connection do the Astros, the Rangers, and the owner of the corporate entity that owns the Express all share in common? (Hint --- the team name gives it all away.....)

Some of our opponents have already lost key pitchers for at least 2 months- Oklahoma's closer is out for the season, and LaTech's ace (LHP David Leal) just broke his foot and is out for two months. Of course, we lost Garcia.

Yeah, one pitcher is par for the course in terms for injuries. Just gotta avoid further issues.

Nolan Ryan.

And the novel "Von Ryan's Express" (which the team name indirectly references) was written by Rice alum David Westheimer.
