RE: 2021 Football Recruiting
This is what I call respecting an offer, and a pinned tweet to boot. First offer was Bowling Green.
Miles Mitchell, 6'3" OLB from NJ.

Excited & honored that I’ve received my second Division 1 offer from a prestigious institution like The College of William & Mary ?. #Tribe @wmtribefootball @pcfb_paladins
Thank you @coachejbarthel https://t.co/Os2B7wVP9b

His Bowling Green one was just 'Honored and excited to have received my first Division 1 offer from Bowling Green State University! #FlyWithUs'

We offered brothers...one for '21 and the other for '22. Both referred to us as University of William and Mary. From frickin' Norfolk to boot. No excuse for that.

It's gotten better this year, but it's still annoying to me when this happens. I brought it up to Coach London briefly when I talked to him at the CAA Media Day, and he did agree it was a (small) issue, though he's definitely got other things to worry about. I'm confident London refers to us as the College of William and Mary to recruits (Not UWM or WMU or whatever), but there's only so much he can do.

I completely disagree. That mistake from recruits comes about completely because of their interactions with the coaching staff --- if the staff makes that mistake then of course the recruit will make it. Even if the recruit gets it from elsewhere (or from his own ignorance of the school) then it is still on the staff because the staff should make it a point to correct that mistake before it even happens.

So, correcting that mistake comes from the top. Don't recall ever seeing that mistake from the former staff.

I think a lot of it comes from this staff's recruiting in mass approach. I believe many of these offers come about without much contact between school and recruit. You have a good portion of the US population outside of VA that have never even heard of W&M. The recruits that actually show interest, make the cut academically, and become a priority don't make that mistake, IMO. Those aren't the football players that are tweeting out William and Mary University. Should the coaches go out of their way to make it a point to get the name right? Perhaps. It really doesn't bother me, because I feel like the guys that will wind up here will have it figured out. The kids that screw up our name on 1st contact are mainly annoying to alums, but I don't think has any bearing on if they will be solid students and citizens should they decide on W&M

Blah...an institution offers to cover your $120,000 tuition/room & board bill, you at least know that institution's name.

Spoken like a 40 year old. A 16 year old kid from NJ whose focus is on going to school, picking up girls, and preparing for Friday night football, probably doesn't know a lot about W&M. I'm not defending a kid not doing his homework on a suitor, just that at this point, I don't think W&M even takes these kids that seriously yet. I think who we target is whittled down by mutual interest, academics, and play on the field. Think about the vast offer lists compiled since London has been here. 90% of the offers you don't even hear from again after that 1st offer tweet. For whatever reason, either we or they didn't make the cut.

Generally, I agree with you but don't you find it worrisome that these two recruits were from Norfolk? That's a lack of brand recognition right in our own back yard.

I think we should try to go the Gonzaga of college football route. Gonzaga basketball put itself on the map by bringing in stud international players when they were overlooked by domestic players. Looking at some of Tribe commit Matt Lasore's European football teammates, they are some physical monsters. The guy that runs the European scouting program is a former teammate of London Jr. Some of these guys looking for a chance are 3 and 4 star equivalent players. Not sure how the academics and transcripts work, but I'd love to get in early on that mainly untapped area.

Agreed, it's not a good look coming from Virginia athletes, let alone tidewater athletes.

RE: 2021 Football Recruiting
maybe someone should keep track of who is excited for an offer from "University of William and Mary" or "William and Mary University" and who ends up attending.

Maybe the data will show a correlation... or not.

Go to Twitter and search for ‘University of Duke offer’. Then read all the tweets with that school’s name screwed up. They are 17 years old in the age of instant social media gratification. They will get it right if they come here. It just isn’t a big deal.
