RE: Urban Meyer Quits
Urban Meyer has seemed troubled for the past 10 years, since the end of his tenure at Florida.
He's had ups and downs since then but IMO you could always see the 'trouble' on his face.
Too bad, he's the second best coach of the past 50 years. Huge blow to Ohio State.

That's my bet.
SC lays a turd again this year and Helton is out. Who better to coach a blue blood program than a blue blood coach?

More likely he’ll end up at San Diego St in 2020 after Rocky Long retires.
Oscar Meyer wants something easy on the laid back west coast like a gig at an SDSU, Fresno, Hawaii...even a UNLV. No pressure, no eyeballs watching him, good recruiting and lots of glory when he makes a run.

He didn't look like he would make it through the Maryland game.

I suspect that the whole Zach Smith episode end of summer was the last straw mentally for him, but he wasn't going to just retire at that time as it would look like he was resigning in disgrace. It was important to him to leave at a time of his own choosing, on a high note, with no inference that he was being forced out, etc.

RE: Urban Meyer Quits
He was a broken and at times conflicted man ever since his Florida days. The way he left Florida for sure showed he was conflicted. I simply do not think he handles stress well at all. That compounded with some health scares, and you can see where any conflict on the couching end can put him over the edge. While in Florida, he was having esophageal spasms that were manifesting as chest pain. Sure, it can be scary as hell, but once diagnosed, it is usually managed with just one pill. However, obviously, he saw the uphill battle after Tebow left and he quit using his health and family as an excuse, because clearly, his mind was not in the game anymore.
Fast forward to the OSU job. I really do not think he ever planned on going back to coaching after he left Florida. That changed when OSU offered him his dream job. I simply do not think he took the job being 100% committed to it. It almost seemed like he took it just because he had to. He was a damn good coach, but I think the mental breakdown behind the scenes were taking a toll. The whole scandal with Zach Smith with probably the last straw. That compounded with his arachnoid cyst, who knows if it is more of an issue than he led the public to believe. Despite people usually being asymptomatic with them, complications can develop, some of which require surgery.

RE: Urban Meyer Quits
Personally, I would be shocked if he coaches again. Aside from his health issues throughout the season (and dating back to his days at Florida), his suspension and the Zach Smith scandal, it always felt like this year was not only going to be his last season at Ohio State, but also his last season coaching in general. He looked beat down and exhausted towards the end of the season, so it is probably in his and his family's best interest that he finally step away.

He looked horrible during the Maryland game. He was caught multiple times on camera bent over squinting at the floor. Either in pain or dizziness....... but it did not appear like it was his teams horrible performance causing that.

This is like the smoker who's an expert at quitting.
Who has retired more often, Urban Meyer or Brett Favre?

Bob Stoops
58 yrs old
Born in Youngstown, Ohio
HC Record: 190-48
1 Nat’l Championship (4 Appearances)
10 Big 12 Championships
Played & started his coaching roots @ Iowa
It just might B
The one & only coaching job
That might entice
Coach Stoops out of retirement
But, make no doubt,
His Blood runs deep in Sooner Red
Actually, IF were 2 make a bet on the
who the HC candidate @ Ohio St will B
IF they go o/s their current staff
I'd put a little $$$$ on Matt Campbell @ Iowa St

RE: Urban Meyer Quits
Stoops certainly makes some sense but its Ryan Day. They are going to try to keep some key coaches and hopefully keep recruiting going without a big blip. The hope sems to be Day is a future big coach which he might well be but these moves always risky.
Last 3 head coaches very different tracks to get here (ignoring Fickell here because was supposed to be interim). Tressel was a great 1-AA coach but without experience as a 1-A coach, Meyer was obviously a successful hrad coach who had briefly retired. Now we are going the coordinator route. Hope he is just as successful.
