-- All 10 conference champions get bid
-- Next 14 highest ranked schools get bid (used final regular season AP poll)

Love the idea. The only problem is that you're looking at a 16/17/18 game season. That will never fly.

RE: Mother of all Playoffs 2018/2019
In the basketball tournament there are 32 conferences that get autobids, so 36/68 teams are at-large bids. If we apply the same logic to a football playoff, 24 teams would be a good number, with 10 autobids and 14 at-large spots.

With the above playoff in place, assuming all favorites win, and compared to other football playoffs, this would happen...

NFL - 2 will play 18, 2 will play 19

FBS - 1 will play 16, 2 will play 17

FCS - 2 will play 14, 2 will play 15

Also, the FCS Championship game will be on Jan 5th, 18 weeks after most schools played their first game.

RE: Mother of all Playoffs 2018/2019
There are few really good ideas that all have merits. Eventually we will see change due to unintended consequences that the “PLAYOOF” has created in a super 4-5 teams with Max 10-12 having any real chance. So when current contracts run out “2025?” Expect change to 6-8 max. Then that 8 can have some tweaks the next go round but this sets us they about 2930-35 after the next tweak.
Those with power are and have been historically forced to make changes. So keep suggesting and one day there will be a change because Alabama and Clemson and Oklahoma fatigue will eventually win out in the hearts and minds to lead the rebellion that will lead to THE MAN giving a little
