I thought it was an obvious statement that competing against the Big10 championship game (with Ohio State in it) would be a bad idea for a Kent State basketball game... but I guess not. I realize most people here harbor no love for OSU football, and most people here would go to a KSU basketball game over an OSU football game. But that's not the reality of the region or the student body. How many students do you think would've gone to that game if it was at 7? They're never going to get a good crowd from the diehard fans, they need to try to attract casual fans. Also, while I agree, the Bama Georgia game was more interesting... it doesn't matter what I think, it matters what the majority of people in the target audience think.

It's not a matter of planning basketball around football. It's a matter of planning basketball around the majority's free time. If they set the start time of a game to accommodate the Superbowl would anyone disagree? The majority of people aren't working at 4 on Saturdays, and the majority of of area sports fans are watching the Big 10 championship game at 8. If that's inconvenient for you, sure that sucks, but the reality is you're in the minority. My wife works Saturdays so she couldn't go to that game, so yeah I'd prefer it was at 7. But I recognize that we were in the minority.

It's also possible that they weren't considering the Big 10 game when they set this time. Burden, brought up the Dec 8th game. It could be just as simple as they're trying something new to see if it would work. Maybe the theory is students are less likely to go to a game on Saturday night because they start drinking before 9 (when a 7 o'clock game would end). Or maybe they're just testing the waters to see if avoiding primetime will help. I'm all for trying something. As for the new years eve game, I think the date is more questionable than the time for that one. No idea what went into picking the date and if that could have been avoided, but if the game has to be on that day, then scheduling it in the afternoon makes way more sense than scheduling it at night because no one would go to a new years eve night game.

The sad part about the attendance, is this team is really fun to watch. Hopefully people realize that at some point.

I'm probably old fashioned, but ... If basketball is your No. 1 sport (????) and has been for over a decade I would think a lot of these questions would be answered ... OR ... the decision would be made; Saturday games start at .... and weekday games start at ... unless TV dictates otherwise.

Then market and promote accordingly.

Kent has one of the better student followings in the MAC. Why in the world would you want to take those seats away from them???

Even if donors/boosters flocked to that endzone, few would do it during the game. Always trying something is just another busy way of doing nothing.

Set a formula and stick with it for more than a year or two ...

Finally ... picking and choosing from year-to-year what team suits your fancy does not help matters, either. You see it all around the league. If teams don't look/play the way fans want, even if they win, folks are not satisfied and denigrate their programs.

end of rant.

THANK YOU!!! Finally the President makes Joel prioritize hoops over football but he does so begrudgingly. So this is what we get

Marketing/ticket sales are stagnant at best. WE ARE THE THIRD LARGEST UNIVERSITY IN THE STATE!

No real traditions. Every year a new gimmick. Lightning bolts, different start times

Seating- Taking away the end zone is a joke and a travesty. The games are for the students. Now we put them so high up they cannot see the scoreboard? That baseline area is empty by game time. It is a joke that nobody is there.

I sincerely hope that the new President will hold athletics accountable.
