RE: Jake Spavital to TXST
If Texas State gets poached now, the only and best thing they should do is:

Fire their AD
Hire the entire SHSU football staff on a 2 year on contract and try and get as many transfers as possible.
Hire a new AD to work on a new staff (if needed)

edit: yes, that's stupid and the coaching staff at SHSU would never go for it, but something like this could/should happen.

Just another kick in a long line of continual kicks to the sack. I'm so calloused over down there I don't even feel it anymore at least.

I'm sick of this. College football needs to collectively give a giant middle finger to Houston, Miami, Manny Diaz, Kliff Kingsbury, and anybody else responsible for leaving theirs and other programs out to dry. You make a deal to be a coach somewhere, honor it. If JS goes to coach in the NFL, that makes him a giant douche.

The timing of the NFL hiring is brutal to colleges. I wish they would put a buyout in the contracts that if the buyout occurs in the first couple months then its 5x as high.

It will be certified fecal matter of a large mammal if this happens. I honestly feel for you Texas State..... Your AD must go. Withers was likely a better coach than he was allowed to be.

May as well have kept Withers if this happens. At least there would be consistency. I fear this sets the rebuild back another full coaching cycle of 3-4 years.

If withers were still here we'd at least have something close to a full recruiting class.

SOURCES: The Arizona Cardinals have interest in #TexasState head coach Jake Spavital for the offensive coordinator job under Kliff Kingsbury. (They coached together at Houston.)

Now wouldn't that just be a lovely kick in the nads . . .

Reflecting on our luck, wouldn't surprise me in the least, but I'm hopin' if this rumor's true, that Spav turns it down.

Manny Diaz's situation is one that I can understand.

If he doesn't, perhaps Texas State could go after Bryan Brown.

The problem with keeping Withers this season is I think he would have had some success (5 wins or so), which would have been more difficult for him to be removed in the future.

But honestly... It shouldn't have much effect on next season, with the exception of the available coach's pool has shrunk significantly. The talent is still on the roster, the experience is still there. It will require a coach that understands how to manipulate the recruiting process (via augmenting with transfers/JC players) to get the mix right again, as this recruiting class will be 100% gutted if we go on to coach number 3 in ONE recruiting class.

But it's not the end of the world. The truly sad part (from my perspective) would be that any funds we get from Spav's buyout clause will be spent paying for our next coach's buyout clause instead of raising the salary or raising the ass't pool.

It still sucks though. Spavital had me a bit excited.

I would look for a HC in CUSA for an opportunity to move up conferences.

Because their the Cardinals. Kingsbury might have been a good choice as an offensive coordinator, but not as an NFL head coach. Kingsbury has no NFL contacts, because if he did he would not be turning to Spavital. I like Spavital, but he has never coached in the NFL. To make him a coordinator is ridiculous. Kingsbury has never coached in the NFL. He would be smart to hire an experienced NFL coach to lead his offense. If Spavital is smart, he will stay at Texas State.
