RE: NCAA NET Rankings Released
NMSU's home loss to St. Mary's really hurt its NET ranking. Especially since SMC went on a three game losing skid right after beating NMSU.

With the exception of SU, I'd say everyone is below where they expected to be this time of year. It seems the WAC has taken a step back this year.
So proud of GCU being in the top 200 04-chairshot

RE: NCAA NET Rankings Released
Quote:However, the thing that is missing from the what the NCAA revealed with the release of the NET ratings is any of the supporting data that goes into the rankings. All we are being given for now is each team's overall record and breakdown by home/road/neutral/non-Division I. That's it. There is not one piece of useful information on the rankings page except the ranking itself.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basket...-a-secret/

Quote:Among the head-scratchers in the initial rankings released three weeks into the 2018-19 season: Kentucky is ranked 61st. The Wildcats have one, 34-point neutral site loss to Duke, the Associated Press poll's No. 1 team last week.

Ohio State, which has wins against four sub-200 squads in KenPom.com's rankings, is No. 1 in the NET ratings.

Loyola Marymount, a team with a 7-0 record, started its season with a victory over Westcliff University, an unaffiliated school. Yet the Lions (10th) are ranked one spot ahead of Kansas, which has neutral-site wins over Michigan State and Tennessee, both top-10 teams in the latest AP poll.

Quote:And the NET's efficiency rankings, unlike KenPom.com and other analytics sites, don't account for the quality of the opponent. So a team that records a net efficiency of 0.5 points per possession against Michigan gets the same credit for a team that records that mark against Central Michigan.

From the Lobo Lair (of all places):

"That's a ridiculous article, IMO. Any decent (non biased) ranking system SHOULD have some outliers at the beginning....that show's that its acting objectively and not submitting to all the preconceived hype of the 'experts'. At the very least it doesn't automatically disqualify it from being a good ranking system."

Very well said.

RE: NCAA NET Rankings Released
I think those who are freaking about the NET need to settle down.If the RPI was still in use there would be teams all over the place as well after 1 week.

The RPI is still very much in use and will be a part of the criteria, just a much smaller piece. And if you take a look at the early season RPI rankings, they are in fact all over the place.

RE: NCAA NET Rankings Released
Maybe the new system will actually put several deserving non-P5 teams into the tourney instead of 37 ACC teams, 13 of which have .500 records and losing records in their conference.
