Yeah, at least no 7 hour bus rides to ODU and Hampton. That said, it is still an obstacle that needs to be overcome.

MBB - Game 7 - Marshall
For me, I see improvement in the defense even if it’s not great yet.

I’m with billymac - my biggest concern is the turnovers. That is the one thing I think needs to most improvement if this team is going to be competitive in CAA play.

The freshmen seem to just run the offense without forcing things. I'd love to see some wins too, but really need to establish the rotation.

Paul had a really strong game yesterday. I'd like to see him in the lineup for 25 minutes a game or more every game.

Totally agree with this. Having so many guys that could play potentially each game and with all the injuries it has really cost Tony and staff the opportunity to really establish the true 8-9 man rotation we need to anchor in going to conference play barring injury or foul trouble. We need to get that rotation down so guys can get a feel of playing with each other and some guys need more minutes to get in rhythm.

I hope each of the guys buy in to the team concept because not everyone is going to play as much as they are or have been in the near future and CAA play. And I hope guys don't force it on offense to try and keep and/or earn their spot in the line up or in their more limited minutes. That gets us out of the offense, turning the ball over and really hinders our chances to win. Team basketball wins especially in our system.

Rowley was on a 15 minute limit last night Coach Shaver said postgame. He actually ended up playing 17 minutes. He is still getting back into game shape and they don't want to push the recovering injury too fast but with Justin being hampered, I think you'll see a lot more of Paul on Saturday.

For me, especially on this team, it's assists and turnovers. Both need to improve for any consistent success.

I keep visiting this thread, braced for really bad info on Justin

Paul Rowley already impressing me more than I thought I'd see all year, and he's not even in game shape. I had this feeling he'd slowly fade into the background and behind the younger guys... now I'm not so sure. He's not the quickest guy, but he could play a very valuable role for us all year, especially with Justin possibly out for an extended period of time

Last night was the first game where it really got away from us and we were not competitive. In each of our other games, we led at some point in the 2nd half(even if only briefly). Hoping for good news(or at least not terrible news) on Pierce.

Also hope that the Tribe can rebound with some good efforts within the Commonwealth over the next 4 weeks. If I can only have 1 win from the Tribe during that time, let it be another win over ODU.

I just keep praying that I was reading the tea leaves correctly when I listened to Tony's post game comments as they pertain to Justin. He started off by talking about how none of the upperclassmen had good games and he specifically called out Justin by name as one of those guys. I would like to be hopeful that he would not have called out Justin as one of those guys if he was terribly concerned that Justin was hurt really bad. Then, at the end of his interview when Jay asked him specifically about Justin, that was when he said that Justin's knee just did not feel good, much like several weeks ago. I am probably just grasping at straws.

Maybe Justin's pride was hurt more than his knee and he needed a break based on Shaver's comments. I'd love for that to be the case. Let's hope.

"Team wins when they make lots of 3s" is hardly groundbreaking, but this team just isn't able to overcome a night when the long range shots aren't falling.
Good stuff. Seen from the other side; when you shut down the perimeter, it looks good. Teams with effective perimeter defense will spank us. It’s a paint game.

Teams are shooting more and more threes and Villanova won two titles in 3 years by hitting 3s, but sure.

RE: MBB - Game 7 - Marshall
Great teams have perimeter players who extend their defense and protect their post players from fouling. Not absolutely but to the extent that they win. Of course, at the top of the heap, there’s always a group of guys who will score from the outside. They’re the champs.
That’s not us. We can score from the perimeter much of the time; until we face somebody who can play. We need more balanced scoring from outside and down low.
