But he doesn't camp out there. He was the best all around player in Asheville. He rebounded and scored from anywhere on the court. I think he has figured things out now and will be a major contributor in both ends of the court.

I’d love to be wrong but I don’t see him as having consistent enough range from deep to be taking 3 of those in a game. We have far more consistent threats from deep in Gadsden, Taylor, and Fornes. Cylla is more useful in the paint battling for boards and putbacks where our smaller guards are at a size disadvantage. Pulling to the outside for one shot a game to spread the floor is reasonable as long as the majority of his shots are in the paint.

He played 1.5 min. Can anyone get in the flow in that amount of time?

Taylor is a good spark, but he gets too out of control. The olny reason to start Estime could be that he just doesn't do well coming off the bench where Fornes does. Sims doesn't look ready yet.

Davidson will be a great test to see if this improved play can translate against a top notch team.

Not sure what the staff is thinking making Fornes sit the bench as much as he is.

I thought we went too much to the bench at the end. Plus, we aren't good at inbounding and breaking the press.

Agree. And we are terrible inbounding against a press.

The team really needs to work on breaking the press.

Yeah. I’m glad I was wrong and he shot another one. A big that can stretch the floor is key. Cylla is becoming what we all expected out of Elmore a couple years ago.

I don't like Cylla shooting 3's. He isn't a great three point shooter and he is a great FT shooter. Can't draw fouls and FT's shooting 3's.

Agree. I also think Shawn should start over Cylla.

Fornes needs to play within the offense and bust it defensively. He can be really good if he does that and SELECTIVELY rips through and goes to the rack. He was dribbling too much going nowhere and not moving the ball. Estime plays good defense and can shoot some too. They both are good players. When Jaylen plays like he did last night, it's a wrap. We have enough good players now that guys can sit down and get things corrected. It really helped Jaylen to realize this and now he's better than before.

Taylor is also good but he was pressing too. He now sees that he's part of a bigger picture and now you see him back to doing his thing.

We need both of these guys rolling to be the team we can be. This is starting to get fun watching this group get better.

RE: ECU - 11/27 - CAA.TV
5 players scored in double figures. Fornes put up 15 points in just 16 minutes, and Taylor put up 12 in 15 minutes. Crazy. One of them needs to take Estime's spot in the starting lineup (I'd say Fornes). Gadsden deserves to stay in the lineup.

I disagree that Cylla needs to come off the bench. I also disagree that he needs to stop shooting 3's. He's a stretch 4, and has proven adept as a mid-range shooter. Problem is, deep 2 pointers aren't the best shot from an analytics perspective. When they're wide open, sure, but otherwise its not the best shot. So he needs to keep shooting from deep. He was able to hit them at Florida Atlantic, so why not here?

Love the team A/TO ratio last night. 20:13. Toews had another double-double with 16 pts and 10 assists. He might become nearly as familiar with the double-double list as Cacok if he keeps this up! Only 3 turnovers for the freshman as well. It seemed like every play he made last night was a highlight-worthy play. Love, love, love this kid.

O'Connell contributes in so many different ways, even when he's not finishing buckets at the rim. It's been fun watching him get comfortable here. 6 boards, 2 blocks and 2 steals last night, with just 1 turnover. He was "changing shots" a lot too, which of course doesn't show up on the box score. Great stuff!

We only forced 11 ECU Turnovers, but I like the way we did it. Mixing in press was nice to see. And I thought even though the Pirates made it interesting late, it's not really all that concerning. Even in our best years we've seen games where we get out to a big lead and then take our foot off the pedal for a bit. We were clearly the better team last night, and that's good to see. This was kind of a "program health" kind of game. You can see how we're pretty far ahead of ECU when it comes to recruiting. ECU should get better under Dooley, and possibly very quickly. And for the sake of this rivalry that would be a good thing. But it's nice to see us control a game against an AAC opponent like that.

Ultimately I think our rotations are starting to crystallize nicely. Early in the season it seemed like our substitution patterns were a bit too hectic, with simply too many bodies seeing the court. I love Sims' potential and I think Elmore can still contribute here in time, but those 2 are certainly looking like the odd men out this year. Our top 8 guys all look solid, and definitely look like they can compete at a high level in the CAA.

Exciting times ahead!

RE: ECU - 11/27 - CAA.TV
I agree with everything 08 said, Cylla needs to start and at least be a threat to shoot the 3. O'Connell always makes a positive impact on the game, but he's better suited coming off the bench. Toews is incredible for a freshman and Gasden is a legit 3 and D threat and can handle the ball if need be. Fornes and Taylor have been better since coming off the bench. I think that has lit a fire under them more than anything.

In regards to last nights game, it was the best we've executed offensively. The defense was really good in the first half, but let up in the second half. I'm going to contribute that to the 4 games in 5 days with a 5 hour bus ride in between.

This team is coming along nicely. We'll see what we're made of on Saturday. I really do think they have a shot.
