Almost like WMU losing to Ball State after being badly beaten by OU and Toledo this FB season.

I missed Half One of UT-Penn, but Penn appeared to be the weakest team I had seen against UT all year, excluding Wilberforce. Can’t believe that their injured players make them better than Villanova. They were flat out awful.

penn runs their offense through their big guys. 2 of their 3 key bigs missed the game (wang played 7 or 8 minuted before he went down). so, they are kind of like a guard oriented team missing 2 of their top 3 guards (like kent without walked and avery). the injuries will probably make them better eventually as other guys are forced into key roles now and will be more reliable backups when they get healthy.

Can Buffalo please lose in the Finals, so MAC can get two teams to the dance. ??

That would be very bad for Buffalo’s chances get out of the first weekend. Assuming they were to win until the finals, but then lose, their seed would probably go from roughly 6 to probably 8-9?

So here’s the hypothetical: is it better to have one Sweet Sixteen team, or two one and dones?

I know how UB fans would vote, and I’d tend to agree with them, unless KSU was the team in the finals that could get that auto-bid.

Regarding your hypothetical scenarios, you are probably correct...
But IMO, I would tend to believe that the MAC would gain more respect and POSSIBLY make more noise in the dance with 2 teams in, rather than just UB...

RE: How doe the MAC get 2 NCAA bids ...
IF UB wins their final two games, AND wins the semi-final tourney game...I'd be OK with a tough last second or OT loss in the finals. It's so rare that a MAC team has a resume worthy enough of an at-large bid I think it would be great for the league to have two teams in.

So as a big Buffalo fan, I'd take the lower NCAA seeding if it means two MAC teams are in. Next season when UB is re-loading, we may be on the other side of this.

We are all sitting here and punching in UB as a 6... Why can't they be a 4? With 5 more wins on the resume they are 29-3? That would be one hell of a 6 seed.

RE: How doe the MAC get 2 NCAA bids ...
According to the below link a 6 seed has 62.9% chance of winning a round of 64 game and a 32.6% chance of making a Sweet 16. For arguments sake let's say a loss makes Buffalo an 8 seed and the MAC auto-bid gets a 13 seed. The combined odds of those teams winning a round of 64 game is 70.5% and the odds of a Sweet 16 14.3%.

Personally I'd prefer 2 teams because that's a guaranteed 2 credits for the MAC and the MAC would have a great opportunity to pick up a 3rd. If Buffalo is the single bid and loses in the 1st round, it's just another year for the MAC. At least getting 2 teams into the tournament would be a nice accomplishment since we haven't done it this century.

Since the MAC gets two teams if it happens, don't we get more money from the NCAA tournament revenue?

Every team gets a 5-year check .... every win is worth a 5-year check.
Last year UB got two checks for the MAC one for getting in, one for the win vs. Arizona.

It is actually every game played, not every win.

Right.

The MAC also now splits the unit checks 75/25 for the program who earned them. Buffalo has most of the units now just like Ohio did until a few years ago.

Actually I said “roughly a 6” meaning 5-6-7. I think 5 would be as high as they could get and that assumes running the table from here. I guess the point was that if UB is in through an at-large, they’ll fall to 8 or 9.
