RE: Richmond
Richmond has been overwhelmed by injuries this season, but do not just assume that they will not be competitive on Saturday.
It makes me shudder every time someone says it will be easy. (piece of cake, cakewalk...) I have heard that all TOO often, in the past.

Here is the challenge, as I see it. Our biggest weakness (the O Line) has to be able to out-perform UR's biggest weakness (their defensive backfield).

There is no question that the Spiders have the worst group of defensive backs, in the league. Observers have told me it is almost TOO easy to find an opening in their pass defense. However, their front 7 are not bad at all. When they get pressure on the opposing QB, regularly, thus protecting their young D-Backs, they have a chance to win...or, at least, be competitive.

There is also no question that our weakest link, all season, has been the O Line. They are young, inexperienced and have been regularly beat up and injured. Those are probably also the best reasons that they have developed very little chemistry over the first 9 games (they looked much better at VU).

If we can protect our QB, give him time to find the (many) open receivers running downfield and open a few holes for Evans and Funderburke, then we should be able to give Jimmye the going away gift (Win #250) that he richly deserves, but if we cannot hold off their defensive rush, we might all be disappointed come Saturday night, because their offense does know how to score.

So, let's not jinx anything by being too cocky. Karma is a b!tch...

I hear almost 700 past players coming back to take the field in Jimmye's honor. That alone will be quite a sight.

Believe they are, also, dedicating a wall jersey for Ronnie at Paul's Deli around 1pm.

Well, so much for 700, Richmond news tonight said 300 expected which is still a great tribute.

RE: Richmond
Saw this on AGS LOL.

"Last year in Orono, we were waiting on the sidelines to go on right before halftime (I was fortunate to be drum major for two years). Late in the first half, the Tribe QB throws ball out of bounds on third down, and one of our drummers catches it. As the W&M offense leaves the field, Jimmye yells out "We're 2-for-12 passing and one of those completions was to the damn Maine Band!" As Laycock goes off the field as the half, he looks at me as I'm right to lead the band on and says: "It won't be that hard, but I hope you play better than we just did in the first half." All I could say is "I hope so too, Coach."

RE: Richmond
Richmond's most dangerous offensive threat, Temple transfer WR Cortrelle Simpson was expected to be back from injury vs Maine, but did not play. He is still not on the depth chart on their game notes, but I'm not too sure how reliable those are. Would be a huge advantage for our secondary if he sits another game. They did get Tyler Wilkins, their second leading WR, back last week though. Either way it's a matchup I will be watching on Saturday. Hopeful our DBs find the ball again this game as Richmond QBs lead the nation in INTs.

However, UR did bring in the R-Soph QB last week and he put up good numbers/didn't turn the ball over. I'm not sure why he played but I expect after that performance we will see some of him.

As always though, on defense it comes down to stopping the run for us. When we do that, we seem to compete (Holding Maine, and in my opinion the best young talent in the league in Ramon Jefferson, to 69 yds for example)

Looks like it will be upper 50s and sunny, beautiful day for football in Williamsburg.

The Tribe website has a picture of seniors. What is little puzzling is the group photo has a lot of juniors (maybe eligibility wise) such as Murray, Klaus, Campbell, Funderburke, Atkins, Williams, Christian, to name a few. I guess it is up to them to come back or not, but it would be devastating if most of them decide to move on.

RE: Richmond
With the improvement seen this season, unless any of them do not have a desire to play for Jimmye's successor, I would think all of them have a lot of very positive reasons to return. Chance at a CAA championship, playoffs, and improving their chances for a professional career. If this had been a dismal season, then it would be understandable.

I'd say 12 of those 19 Redshirt Juniors are key contributors (almost all are starters) to this year's team. It would be a shame to lose any of them but I think it is inevitable that we will. Hopefully, a great hire will keep most of them in place. If you are a walk-on I imagine that is a harder sell than if you're on scholarship.

Those are, as previously stated, redshirt juniors. They get pictured in all of the senior pictures. It doesn’t happen very often, but maybe one or two of those guys might move on. I can guarantee most will use their last year next year.

If anyone is interested, I now have 4 extra tickets (2 sets of 2 directly in front of each other) in Section 100 (where team enters field on sideline). Would like face value but am also realistic and will work with you to unload them. PM me if interested. I will be in Williamsburg on Friday and can meet up then or on Saturday before the game.

With 6 RS Juniors leaving I will assume there will be a loss or two we would rather not have. But the sport is a grind and I understand not all will want to prepare for a 5th year. And some of them may simply ready to move on into their career...or a grad program that does not exist at William and Mary.

Recognize the grind and commitment, but we have been redshirting true freshmen for a while now under Laycock's tenure, but until the last few years I don't recall any 5th year seniors, who saw valuable playing time, not returning for that extra year?? Or maybe, I just didn't pay attention before.

Best of luck to the student-athletes who want to move on. Lots of guys who want the opportunity to take their places.

Would anyone be interested in sharing a ride to the Richmond game Saturday from the Roanoke vicinity? I have an extra ticket. I have to make it a day trip and am a little leary of the drive back by myself. PM me if interested.

I doubt we are losing a lot of regular contributors this year either but I believe you are right. We are losing more lately than before. Just in shear numbers, 6 would essentially equal the total losses of redshirt seniors for the 2009 and 2010 seasons and those were huge classes.

I am confused..... Do we know 6 RS juniors are leaving, or was the above comment a misunderstanding of the post above that talking about the graduating seniors and 5th year seniors. i.e, are all 6 walking seniors(RS juniors for eligibility purposes?)
