Wow! Yeah, there sure is. I thought they would be close to sold out.

Ice cold night isn’t exactly a draw for most fans.

We're already getting some of those excuses from our friend group. Lot of guys going, no wives or kids. And these are people with season tickets already in hand.

Agree with bearcatlawjd as well. Just because a couple of you guys know some women and seniors that are down with the weather, doesn't mean that there are others that are bothered by it. It is a factor-- especially with this fickle fan base.

And the only reason that the Bengals and Steelers are packed for a cold game is because there are 25,000 Steeler fans in the stands. USF will bring maybe 150 moms, dads and girlfriends at most.

My point was just, either you want to go or you don't. If you just show up when; there is nothing going on, 65 degrees, almost no clouds, with a good opponent, you didn't really want to go in the first place. When they bought the season tickets, they had a good idea what the weather in November would be. If it was rain, snow, or extreme heat/cold then I'm with you. 30 degrees could almost just be considered brisk.

Put on a coat and drink some beer. Weak sauce if we don’t have over 35k. Should be minimum 38k and close to sell out though.

I’m sure warmed adequately by a few pregame adult pops.

I will be bringing a friend to the game. I've been to much colder games than this one.

Fortunately, I have a high school football playoff game at 7 pm Saturday. Would have been there otherwise.

Ice cold night isn’t exactly a draw for most fans.

It wouldn't stop anyone from showing up to Sunday Night Football or something like that. Cold is football weather, and it isn't even going to be that cold. Maybe it's an excuse for someone looking for an excuse, other than that I don't really buy it.

So true. Bengals and Steelers @ PBS in this weekend's weather and you've got 65,000. My guess is USF brings way less than a thousand fans too. That was a built-in bonus in the old Big East: Louisville, WVU and to a lesser extent, Pitt and Syracuse, actually brought fans the way P5 schools do to fill in the corners.

Our growing fan base is encouraging, but not real resilient when it comes to the weather.

Most of those were Steelers fans. Bungles do not draw well either. Take a look at the Tampa Bay game.

Great point. I'll only add that in my book, cold and dry beats cold and wet hands down. No reason not to have a great turnout for an 8-1 team contending for a conference championship.

Maybe I'm reading too much into his comments but Fickell made a point about the great fan support last week. He's been consistently supportive of our student crowds. Left unsaid, any comments on our overall crowds prior to the Navy game.

My concern is our late season attendance often has been disappointing, even in years when the 'Cats were contending for a BCS bowl. I think it's culture shock for a guy who played and coached at a football mecca where they'll have the usual 90,000+ for November games. Especially when he leads them out of the tunnel and a quarter of our fans aren't seated--or even in the stadium yet.

Even on this board, I see 3/4x the amount of threads about Mick than I do for football. We haven't had a game this big in Cincinnati in years. I'm having trouble coming to terms that everyone isn't as excited as I am.

I agree with you there. Don't see any real discussion about this upcoming game with the exception of weather and expected attendance.

Let's talk some potential story lines for the game. Two things that concern me for this game are the loss of Perry Young and how mobile/healthy Desmond Ridder is. Ridder went down in the Navy game as well, and according to Coach Fickell on his radio show he described that Des is a little hobbled. His mobility has proven to be a key element to our offensive efficiency this year. The weakness of USF's defense is apparently at linebacker, so if Des is healthy this could be another contest we he racks up some yards on the ground.

I do have faith Jarrell White will Perry's production, but as we saw in the Ohio game I think Perry does a lot of little things to help out some others on the field shine (ie. Bryan Wright).

I don't know a whole lot about USF. What do they do well, what do they struggle with?

RE: 2007 All over again
Chaining on regarding the USF game, I'm kind of amazed at how Charlie Strong's defense has been shredded much of the season but last week in particular, playing at home against Tulane. But we can't assume UC will score at will if Ridder is slowed by injury against a speedy opponent.

My hope is UC comes out guns blazing and builds a sizable lead. We know the boys from Florida won't enjoy the weather so if this scenario happens they may pack it in early.

My fear is this will be a game with lots of scoring, some lead changes and the outcome hanging in the balance until the 4th quarter. Every season is different, but USF has had its way with the 'Cats, home or away, of late. It's time for that to end.

As you might expect, good skill players on offense. The big play is their thing. Their QB was a 5-star who originally committed to Alabama, but then transferred. He's 6'5, has a strong arm and is can extend plays with his feet, but he is prone to turnovers. They have some good running backs-- their leading rusher has as many yards as Mike Warren. We need to be wary of their little water-bug of a scat back, he's prone to big plays and has 8 TDs on the year already. They have a slot receiver who is 5'11 240, who is a tough match up for the secondary. He is the one who moves the chains.

Defensively they have struggled this year, giving up nearly 31 points a game. I know their line backing corps is decimated, I think they are only play one scholarship player right now due to injuries. Teams have been able to run on them, as they've given up 249 yards a game on the ground.

Their kick returner has taken 2 back to the house this year and averages 47 yards a pop on kickoffs. We should keep the ball away from him.

Just looking back the last 3 years, USF has beaten us by 35, 25 and 30. That is painful.

There was a crazy stat about USF football and how they had never won a game when temperatures fell below 40 degrees. Not sure if that's still accurate or not.
