Writing was on the wall, he's been surpassed by many for playing time. Not a bad decision for him, wish him the best

RE: Jeff Gary transferring
I appreciate the effort Jeff gave last year while being thrown into the fire. At the end of the day, he was brought into be a ball handler and it was apparent early on he wasn't going to work out in that role. I hope he was able to take something away from his experience at UNCW. If he plays with that same effort going forward, along with his jumper and a year off to develop, I'm sure he'll be fine. I'd say he's good enough to play at a D1 low major.

I agree with everyone here. I'm glad he at least made this decision early on in his sophomore season to maximize his playing time elsewhere. He's a good kid and has a competitive fire; I think he was just outmatched in talent here.

All the best to him and hope he succeeds whereever he lands.

In Alex Riley’s article in the Starnews on Wed, Gary said that he didn’t want to be pigeonholed as strictly a catch and shoot player. And he said he asked to redshirt this year so he could develop his game but McGrath wouldn’t let him redshirt.

Basically cut is what I see here. Good luck to him and I do think he can help at the D1 level.

That's the only part of this I'm curious about - why didn't they let him redshirt?

Not really a point in doing that, IMO. He’s outmatched talent wise at every position.

Leaving now it would allow us to bring in a transfer who could be available after end of first semester next year.
